Three minor bugs [FIXED]

Im playing 0.9.8.7 version of DooMRL with sound on windows 98.

First up Computer map reveals bits of dungeon floor


There is a protective boots [4/4] (100%) lying here.

As you can see there are some spots of the map that I couldnt have explored but are visible on the map. There were more of those but I didnt take a screenshot when I first noticed this.

Second 100 % experience

In one of the play throughs I noticed that I managed to get 100% experience but did not level up. I assume this is just a case of rounding up when converting numbers as I leveled very soon afterwards. Personally I think it doesnt make much sense to have 100% of experience as that suggests I have all the experience needed to level. It would be nice if this was changed to display 99% in such cases.

And lastly Dropping equipped weapons with long names blanks the screen

If a weapon with a very long name such as an advance rocket launcher with mods is dropped strait from the equipment screen the screen will temporarily go black. Not really a problem as you just have to go with [more] to get back to the normal game but scared me a bit when it first happened :).

1. I believe that happens only if monsters pick up items that used to be there, but aren't any longer.  Still isn't cool, obviously.

2. Yeah, that's an old one.

Regarding number one, I dunno.  They're just points on the map that show that items that should have been there aren't there anymore.  It's useful to the player, at least.  If you think of the map as updated realtime, which if you have the map display in your possession like you do in Doom, it could be considered to be realtime.

If you prefer to think of it as a one-time update to your map computer, though, then you have to imagine that the map was probably made before you got on the level...  but then why would it know where all the weapons and items were at that particular moment?  What stopped the monsters from picking up the items before the player entered the level?  It gets a bit existential if you consider this a bug.

Since no item can stack in this game, seeing those dots just reminds us that there was an item there.  It helps the player, but not a lot, and doesn't really hinder gameplay.  It sorta makes one feel a bit like a detective, figuring out where the monsters are by the traces they leave.  If those little spots on the map were actually revealing terrain (meaning terrain that could affect the way the player plays the game) or something similar, that would be different.

Would everyone prefer that nothing be there?  That if a monster picks something up before you get the map, that the map just shows what the current state is, and not what it was at the moment you entered the area?  That might make the areas with multiple computer maps a bit more valuable, as you could check a new map to see if items were taken after you first scanned...

Number 1 isn't a bug, the rest will be fixed when I finish GSoC/MSc.

Thanks, I didnt know what the blank spots on the map meant, I havent really noticed them before then. Ill make sure Ill look in to things a bit more next time I report bugs :$.

And on that note I noticed some other unimportant problems with the obscenely long named rocket launcher.

1) The rocket launcher name doesnt fit completely in the space provided.
2) The end of the name (1) is still there after I changed the weapon.

Im not in a huge hurry to see these bugs fixed as they dont really break gameplay so by all means take your time fixing them or leave them out until 0.9.9 :).
