I remember you doing a small demo-like Diablo RL. What's happening to that project? Will it be continued or did you droped it?

It was decided that DiabloRL will be discontinued, but recently I had a change of heart and decided to ressurect the project. A new version can be reasonably expected before the end of the year.

Oh Yeah ! Little help from me (maby you already know about it but just in cease): There is "Jarluf's Diablo Guide" which describes about 99% of mechanics f Diablo and Helfire (including things like Monster AI !). I think that could be usefull. :]

Y'know, without that guide, DiabloRL would probably look a lot different :>. If you take a look into DiabloRL ini files you'll see that all the stats for the monsters, items etc are identical to the original :->

Please continue on DiabloRL, it could be a great distraction from other *ahem persuits, perhaps you could repost the link for those who have not played your demo.  

Just a thought how about StarCraftRL.  At the start you play a lowly soldier that is part of a team (up to 5) and you have to kill a number of enemies.  As you progress in levels you become captain and you take control of your squad.  Hmm sounds like a lot of work for a RL.  Oh well.  I love the idea of basing a RL on something that is already defined, it makes the programmers job a lot easier where he/she can just work on making the game fun. Keep up the good work.

Okay, okay, I will ;-). As for StarCraftRL I had that idea some time ago, and who knows maybe some day... Probably using the Carceri Engine tough.

Good news!

Diablo was too boring for me (slow-paced and a required too much clicking), but DiabloRL had fixed both problems and is quite enjoyable :)

I once had a similar (though more complex ;) ) idea, and it even survived something like five incarnations (none really playable), until I postponed my FP-tinkering in favour of literature, school and (*ahem*; hint - check my "Interests" section).

Maybe it will be finished one day ;). And don't forget Carceri :)).

Little offtopic - maby after getting Doom RL to version 1.0.0 you could make Quake RL ? XD I think that there could be interested in it (personally I would  love Quake 2 transformed to RL ^_^)

Okay, after playing DiabloRL, I like what I see.  The only big features that I want implemented are already listed in the 'to do' list, so I don't have much to say -- just have fun making it work!  :3

However, I DID see one problem: the enemies don't 'swarm'.  In Diablo 2, when you fight, melee enemies who can't reach you will circle around you, eventually attacking you from all directions.  In DiabloRL, they sit behind whomever got to you first, meaning you'll have (at most) 3 enemies attacking you at once.  (Ranged enemies usually just fire from where they are.)

I presume that NPC 'allies' will eventually be part of the game, as well?

And I can't wait to see your Carceri Engine.  If it's what it's cracked up to be, I can use it to make FalloutRL.  :3

What did you expect from an AI written in 90 minutes? ^_^. Remember that the whole project took seven days WHILE doing day-to-day stuff like studying.

I would tell you you won't -- because Carceri was designed to mainly build coffee-break dungeon crawls like DoomRL/DiabloRL. But hell! Lua amazes me -- with some additional Lua coding it might be possible ^_^
