Before him 9 brave souls have ventured into Phobos:
 9 of those were killed.

I'm not sure I understand how I'm supposed to survive hell knights. Fully loaded chaingun and double shotgun, all of the health packs used, all of the health pickups used, all of the health traits used and yet no success.

Ok, maybe going Hard on the first day of play isn't ultra smart, but this was the best run of the day (other than a boring easy lvl 10, died to --guess what-- a Hell Knight.)

Well, for starters you should avoid walls when fighting Hell Knights; their acid balls explode and so if you're near a wall they will still be able to damage you greatly even if they technically miss you.

Secondly, you should *always* carry at least one extra suit of armor, simply because if you don't you'll have no way of replacing those that get broken (and from the screen yours did get broken, though it's not clear if that was the shot before the one that killed you or directly on the killing shot such that it did subtract 2 points instead of only 1 point of damage).

Thirdly, you didn't actually take three levels of Ironman; your second level is Tough as Nails. ;)

Fourthly, Ironman is by no means the best trait to take; it's a good choice, certainly, but there's others out there.  TaN, for example (which stacks on armor, btw).  Son of a Bitch is also very good, especially for someone who is primarily using a chaingun (since it effectively acts as armor-piercing for each round).  Try different traits next time!

Not if it doesn’t work ;).

About the Hell Knights, have you tried fighting them in melee?

I did carry a backup suit, but another Hell Knight previously met on this very same level took care of it.

...which is still about taking less damage and not about doing more. :)

When Sandy spotted it it was rather far and splash damage pushed the characted further back on the wall.

EDIT: But yes, I should have retreated ASAP as I saw that darn thing.

I keep forgetting that not everyone donates and has access to the second beta. SoB hasn't been fixed for the regular releases yet. :/

Just for the record, I would love to donate and get the beta :p but I’m really not that well of finically at the moment to be able to do so :( (and it will probably stay that way for the next 4 – 5 years). I’m just waiting out till sometime in December 2012 :p.

Oh, yeah. Being on topic...

TheBP: If the Hell Knight is too far to make it to close combat and you are out of cover to run to just switch to coward tactic and hope for the best (getting around two levels of Eagle Eye will help a lot with this plan in my experience). Well that’s what I do anyway... but then again I play on easy ;).

First, conserve medikits. They are life-savers.
Second, one spare armor is insufficient. I, if it is possible, have about 3 of them.
Third, perks. If you took one level of TaN, on next level you must to take second. Second level gives better comparative bonus. Or, don't get TaN - there are exist better perks.
Forth, if you plan to use double shotgun, you must to take Shottyman - it's indispensable!
Fifth, Knights have very high to-hit chance. If you shoot with chaingun, it's better to use agressive tactics. By my experience, it's the best choice.
Sixth, visit chained couirt. (red stair on level 4-6). It's easy, and free experience can help.
Seventh, knife as weapon is useless, if you don't play AoB. Only it's useful function - to lure enemies, but ammo is better.

Try Angel of Markmanship challenge. On medium or hard it's easier than regular game.
