linux binaries for other architectures
« on: January 08, 2008, 19:28 »

This almost rabid fan of ascii-xenomorphs has two quick questions:

  • As I'm running Linux on a PowerPC (think non-Mac G3) I'm having some trouble playing AliensRL - QEMU is fast enough to emulate a 66MHz 486 for me, but is there any chance of a linux ppc binary as well?
  • What are the min. requirements for AliensRL under Windows? Would win95a be too old and would I need DirectX besides VB/SDL to play?

Many thanks!

As for PowerPC architecture -- FreePascal can be compiled for PPC, however, I'm unsure the program will be compatible :P (I know in one place at least it would have to be modified). However, AliensRL might be GPL'ed soon, and then you could try to compile it yourself (I'd give you pointers however).

As for running under Win95 I'm sure that it would run, however... The level generation part could take ages (like DF on a modern PC) ....

Aah, if you already had plans on releasing the source I won't nag for binaries.
I know, I play it on my father's 350MHz K6-2 and the level generation takes a few minutes... could take 15-30 minutes with QEMU's 66MHz :P
