Anyway, I didn't make the posts to create discussion. I made it to point things out.

To hit a bottle from 50m with rifle is a piece of cake, to hit it with pistol it is a miracle.

In DoomRL there does not exist such thing as "rifles". Plasma Rifle is not a rifle, it is a fantastic weapon, and it can to have any kind of properties.
Second, the hero is not an ordinary human. He can to have some abilities, as high ability to-hit, and other superhuman abilities. It's a future, isn't it?

A very important point! Who knows what kind of bio-engineering they put to their soldiers in the future? Now let's also remember that the doomguy belongs to the elite warriors of man, the mighty Space Marines, each of them worth hundred normal men, and suddenly the game seems quite realistic.

Actually the doomguy was the poor sob who was forced into the patrol and left behind while his squad entered Phobos -_-.

Like in above post I believe that 'realism' is what lets you taste things as if you were in some kind of situation that is normally hard to come by.. To do that you don't need to simulate everything completely. Just what is essential, and lack of possibility of simulation can be replaced by some other means (like hit points). However making things work opposite takes that feel of experiencing things away.
Actually, it's imagination. Realism is something else entirely. Imagination makes one enjoy a game and immerse oneself in it as if it was real, for at least the short time that one is playing it. Some people have less imagination and they require their games to be closer to reality to be able to enjoy them. Others have more imagination and don't require games to be as connected to the player's own world (that doesn't mean they can't enjoy games with more realism, however).

Perfectly right. I just tried to point it out (in many other topics also) not directly, so it can be better understood, and alter games in a way to stimulate it, make people use it, focus, without being aware they do so (so it works like it should). This is, actually, the thing that makes everything more 'real'.

Surely a double barrel shotgun would fire twice or else it would be a triple barrel shotgun...

What about reload times?

Actually, the way the DS is now is pretty good, even in reality. Two shells at short range will always deal more damage than one because of the SHAPED CHARGE (google it!) effect of shotguns at short range, where raw damage rises at an exponential equation to power.

DS Ballistics shots reveal two interposed elipses instead of a circle of just one shell.
The interposed area (like a cat´s eye) reveals a higher pellet density, higher force applied to the same area than individual shells.
