Sokoban level

How's about a special sokoban type level? no enemies, just 1 big room with a few walls and lots of barrels to push out of the way to clear a path to the stairs (and maybe a few nice items).

the catch is offcourse that if you push the barrels the wrong way, you get stuck and will have to blow them up to get to the stairs.. probably killing yourself.

If its a basic level and not a special secret or bonus level, please NeVeR include this. I would hate the frustration it would give.

However special level could include some barrels maze, maybe with multiple kind of barrels (one that cannot be pushed but can be desroyed, one that desintegrate barrel it touches but these dont explode, one that can be pushed only once, normal barrel... eh im getting into big puzzle now :P)

But again if they are normal level you run in a normal adventure I would truly hate it.

I would slow down the pace of the game too much...

yeah i know, it would be undoomish too, slow down the game etc.. but those barrels are just perfect for it! and i'm talking special level here, not one you have to go through..

and furthermore, nethack has it! adom has it! (i think) There's probably more rogue like games that have it.. let's follow the trend! ;)

Well, If you must PLEASE for the love of sanity add an exit immediate to your starting position so we do not have to go through the puzzles if we feel knacked. (Pron. nack-ed)

You can already skip special levels and take a normal one instead.  I generally do this for The Wall and Chained Court.

I like this level.  If you make it though the Sokoban level, you get (prize X; supercharge, red armor, whatever); but if you mess up, well, you aim your pistol for the nearest barrel and hope for the best.  :D

You skip the CC? It's a easy way to get XP!

Of course! Only most of us dont look, See a red staircase and go "Oh! Great, A special level!".

Convinience aside I think that having an exit right next to you when you begin the level would be a great help instead of going through the puzzles to get to an exit.

What's so bad about that? I only chicken out of 1 level, the wall. And that's ONLY if I don't have a rocket launcher and 15 rockets.

When it comes to special levels: reward > risk

Hell's arena: A push-over, and you get a CHAINGUN ON LEVEL 2.
Chained court: The difficulty's insultingly easy, but you still get a nice 400 XP.
The wall: Medium difficulty for a bucket-load of rockets and a once-in-a-game chance at a 4d5 RL? Sold.

Now I'll stop because it's getting mildly spoilerous, but you get the idea.

I generally only take it if I am dying...  beserk packs are a great way to heal.

Otherwise, I take a normal level, which usually has better weapon drops and better chance for armor.

but.. you will go to the 'normal' level after you've done chained court (or any other special level)!

if you discover the stairs to chained court at level x (let's say x=5), you can take these and after you finished it you can take either stairs there to go to level x+1 (in this example lvl 6).

Nicly explained turgor. If you skipped levels by taking the special one instead, then no-one will ever play level 3 ever again.

Also, in your mortem it says

On level 2 blah blah blah
Then blah blah hell's arena.
On level 3 blah blah blah
There he was killed because this is the end of the example.
