First person graphic mode
Ihurah Ayimuzus:
Viewing the grid-based level in the first person perspective with textures and everything so it would look just like Doom would
1. be possible
2. be downright awesome

No. Do you know what a roguelike is? This would basically require a completely separate and much more complex shell program. There is nobody anywhere who wants to do that.

No. Do you know what a roguelike is? Half the point is the anachronism of text mode. If you want to play DOOM with graphics then play DOOM, fool. It's been open-source for a few years now, which means you can basically play it on almost any computer regardless of type or newness and even for free if you find somebody who's faked up the content or just have the lack of givin' a shit necessary to steal the original stuff.

Beat me to it.
If you want a grid-based game with a first person perspective, textures, and good gameplay, play Might and Magic I-V/World of Xeen.

Never say never. There are some seriously disturbed minds around, after all.

Alright, the quote is so weird so I'm just answering to this :
No. Do you know what a roguelike is? Half the point is the anachronism of text mode.
Thats closed minded, hella closed minded. Although I disagree with a "first person mode", waste of time and it ruins the overhead feels, you are just closed to the evolution of such a project just because its a RL. Its not because its made of text and was supposed to that this shouldn't change.
