[E|97%|15|YASD] My best since now!

(1/3) > >>

Iferrly:
Well, I started to play DoomRL about a week ago, and I quite fell into that game. I'm fond of the idea or DoomRL. At the beggining I had big problems with keybidings, but soon I got used to it.
I'm happy to say that I made progress since my first try. Most helpful for me was reading posts on Chaosforge forums. Still, I;m playing on the easiest level :) That's my mortem:

Hell's Arena
I couldn't do the final, 'cause i was out of medkits. These big Cacodemons were really strong, but the rest was quite easy. I was trying to play carefully, that's why I left.

The Chained Court
I think that was too easy, the Berserkers make you almost invincible against former humans. But anyway, it was a good place to raise my experience. Although, the prize wasn't very big too. I haven't used the chainsaw after this level.

Anti-Freak Jackal
I was lucky here. Found it lying in a room with lost souls. That damn weapon is really good, it helped me with the Barons a lot.

Halls of Carnage
These were quite easy, because of the 3 Super Globes lying in the level. I don't know if it's always there, or I was just as lucky. And what a prize! BFG 9000!

Killed by a Cacodemon
That pisses me off. If it was a Baron or something, it would be okay, but a Cacodemon? Wht a humiliation!
I was too uncareful when i started to go on so good. Man, what a loose...

Anyway, I'm gonna play on. This game gives a lot of fun, and I'll (with your help) try to get into perfection.

PS:Sorry for off-topic, but where can I introduce myself? I'm quit new here... And don't mind the spelling, they may miss few letters like "e" or "t", cause i have a broken keys on th keyboard.

[Edit: You can read about tagging mortems in the Da Rules! topic]

FrostyTheDragon:
For reference: Topic tags for this are probably something like [E|97%|15|YASD].  Edit: I said 16 before.... my mistake.

Anyway, notes:
1) Even I, a shotgun advocate, am surprised you're using the double shotgun in such an open area, especially considering your other weapons.  Open areas are a job for the rocket launcher.
2) I'm going to take a guess and say: were you hoping for an advanced BFG 9000 in a later level?  Even with Whizkid I question carrying (instead of using) that many weapon mods at once for any other reason - and frankly I think you should have stuck your weapon magazine mod into the BFG 9000 that you DID have (for power cell storage concerns).
3) The Halls of Carnage supercharges are there all the time.
4) You think Cacodemons are bad in Hell's Arena?  On some higher difficulties there's Barons there.

I'll let other people handle the rest.

Iferrly:
Sorry, I'm new here. Didn't realise, and anyway, I didn't understand this code, doh.

1) Thanks for the tip. I tried with the rocket launcher on The Wall and it rules :D. But when I entered this area, I already had about 20% life and no medkits. So I did'nt want to risk anything.
2) I got the BFG 9000 a level before, so I haven't even thought of gettin' it modded. But yeah, you are right - next time I must think more about it. And I wasn't hoping for an advanced BFG 9000. Probably it would be too cool so I did not think of it seriously.
3) Just thought so :D.
4) That must be really hard. You know, I have played only the "I'm too young to die!" difficulty level.

I also wanted to ask: The pain elementals summon the lost souls, aren't they?

If I'm not mistaken, most people don't recommend doing Hell's Arena on the later difficulties for that reason.

As far as the pain elementals: Yeah, just like in the original Doom, pain elementals summon lost souls.  I think they summon more at once than in the original Doom, although they're not as steady with the summoning frequency.

Iferrly:
So thats why there was such a mess with those Lost Souls there ;]. But they are chancless against a double shotgun, it kills like 3 per attack.

Thanks Malek, I just didn't realise - I'm full of work and I hardly find time to check anything. Anyway, what's the difference between a YASD and a YAVP?
