Is this game supposed to ba an action game or an rpg?

As an action game I find the inventory management cumbersome. Doom had auto pickup becuase there was no bad side to picking up an item. When you pick up a weapon you already have you just get the ammo. You never got an inventory full message.

Indeed, That gives it:

Stratergy elements

RPG Elements (Ugh, I'm getting the chills here*..So lets just say Stat Leveling)

Niche Market Value

Plus seeing as its doom orientated, That gives it action value :-D

So really you have two choices:

A. Play it fast as if you would real doom, And have it as an action game

B. Play it slowly and think about it - Stratergy game

*Anyone ever notice how in RPG's there is no role playing?

The best thing about the roguelikes that these two not exclusive. You can play is as fast as you want. Make the keyboard burn when things go easy and sit back and think hard when though things appear.

RPG in computer games mean using game mechanics similar to these in table-top RPG. Roll Playing Game would be a more accurate description of the acronym.

To add to a content my previous post:
Roguelikes are neither action, nor RPG games. They form a genre of their own, although, they have some similarities in play mechanics and share common roots with CRPGs.
Inventory management is an integral part of many roguelike games.

Yes, but a genre limited to some people. Many hates rogue like game, and many hates DoomRL for bad graphics (thats lack of imagination).

If all goes well, we'll have that out of the way :-)

Yep, The reason why nethack isint the number one dungeon crawl right now is because people dont have that spark to translate that yellow : into...THE NEWT

Dudley's Dungeon, Search here for nethack jokes..Sometimes with newts.

As for me? I find that its alot more fun being chased by the capital black 'D' than a crappy 32X32 dragon :-)

Yep, Like I said in the Graphics for DoomRL thread:

"This will bring DoomRL to the masses"

O.K Fine.

Black Dragons in Nethack are rendered as a dark grey 'D'

Every item or creature that is black is rendered as dark grey.

Has anyone tried putting a saddle on a Succubus? (Or an Incubus if you are that kind)
