That doesn't work. It just ends up giving me the same error at the same time.

Does it crash out of the box?

Also, try playing with running it in compatibility mode.

No the crash is actually inside the window, it overwrites the map display. Trying in compatibility mode now.

EDIT: I ran it as an admin instead of just running it normally, and it worked after it crashed the first time. Also it was weird because it started me on level 2 when it finally started working and I have never been able to play it so I don't think I should have been able to start there.

Sorry for double posting, but I felt it necessary to bump this.

So I continued playing from what it started me on, level 2 and I died to restart. When I went to start a new game it crashed after the dialogue, and by crashed I mean it simply just exited from the program. Furthermore I restarted it and went to new game and it put me straight into level 2 again, there was no dialogue, no name input, and no skill leveling that normally takes place at the beginning. So it repeated what it did the first time.

Any ideas?

I think he meant, did it start doing this as soon as you downloaded and unzipped the program.
Like, if you download it again and put it in a new folder, will it do this?

It has been doing this from the start. I have redownloaded multiple times. Still nothing : /

It's all in one folder on my desktop. Why would that matter though? I have gotten it to run on my friends computer with the same placement method.

The desktop is ok for me as well. I thought you put it into Program Files - in that case it could cause problems (by default the application cannot modify files inside folder there).

The last ideas I have:
- antivirus or other wicked third party application that affects game;
- maybe computer was put into sleep/hibernate status too many times; I had some problems with it - hibernating crashed my DoomRL at least once; try rebooting computer and running game afterwards;

I don't run anti-virus software, I do all my virus deletion manually. I have restarted before to see if that would work and it didn't. I suppose it could be some other third party software that somehow effects it but I am unsure what could possibly be doing that since most third party apps are games. Unless perhaps visual studio would somehow effect it. But then wouldn't AliensRL be having problems? I have no problems whatsoever with AliensRL and as far as I can tell it uses the same engine as DoomRL with a slightly different display setup.

There's one difference - Lua... :/

Also DoomRL uses smpeg while Aliens uses libOGG. Try the next version based on OpenAL. Did you try playing without music and sounds.

I played with sounds and music. I will try without.

When is the next version to be released?
