I suppose you could have just had to have left the game 40 times, but seeing that makes one assume you save scummed.

Considering the accuracy of the pistol and the Trigun anyway, EE isn't terribly needed for a pistol specialized game.

Maybe not, but a pistol-based game is made easier by the second-tier abilities that come from EE...
