DoomRL doesn't save anythng between sessions

Generic:
This is stupid. Every game I play within the same session acts okay, but when I quit, it's like everything I did is deleted from the game if I don't have a savegame! I don't know why it happens, but it's the only reason I can't get any better ranks in DoomRL (do you know how many times I've gotten corporal rank?), and there's nothing in the ini about this. I don't even get any errors about it!

In case you're wondering, I run Ubuntu, but that shouldn't make much of a difference (unless you're using Microsoft-specific stuff, then shame on you, Kornel!).

you must close in game... if you close the game with the "x" the save will not work.

i mean that you must close the game selecting "exit game" in menu.
