Competitions!

Obviously in 9.9 we've got badges. That counts for something.

However, the difficulty curve is this: (Scale is 1 to 10).

Bronze: 1

Silver: 3

Gold: 4/5

Platinum: 7/8

Diamond: 15

So, obviously there should be some achievements between those levels, but instead of implementing them, why not make it a communal challenge (Like Malicious Knives was.)?

If Kornel would be so nice to comply, perhaps we could make this a running event every month or two, and the winners in the respective categories could get a custom user title?

What would you guys think?

(Here are some of the categories i'm thinking of:

1) Standard Game Realtime Speedrun (M)
2) Ao100 Realtime Speedrun (M)
3) N! Standard Realtime speedrun (N!)
4) Standard Game Turncount Speedrun (M)
5) Ao100 Turncount Speedrun (M)
6) N! Standard Turncount speedrun (N!)
7) AoRA Realtime Speedrun (M)
8) Standard Realtime Speedrun, must visit every special level (M) )

Sounds great. Also - we could make this a bit more public by broadcasting the games live xP.

Yeah, I know I already suggested that in the publicity thread.

I still think it is a good idea.

It would be even cooler if you could play DoomRL online through a Java applet, like Nethack. That would also allow the competition thing a lot easier to implement, IMO.

I'm afraid Dervis doesn't have enough place in his infobox to fit 8 new custom titles :P.

But honestly this idea sounds great! It would be far better however, if I finally managed to implement game replay system :/.

Also, I can supply edited level 1 save files for truly custom compos -- like setting up a startup with dual cursed blasters :P (and some additional hindrance).

Ah, Kornel, you are totally awesome.

Also, I guess that people that are considered "Very Good" Could only enter the harder challenges, or something. Noob Challenges and Veteran Challenges.

The additional Hindrance is that they don't recharge.

And take no ammo.

Well, I figure it would be easier to keep track of a run if people were watching it as it occurs, like you can do on alt.org.

DoomRL is good for that sort of thing, because I can actually beat it, compared to nethack whitch just seems to be too much game for me...

You have to do every challenge on N! to make up for your superior skill.

The N! Challenge becomes N! AoB.

This would basically be the best thing in the history of ever. Is there a subforum or something for discussing this? If you're interesting in using dgamelaunch I'd be happy to help you with it if you don't already have a dgamelaunch person on board.
