Couple of questions
« on: November 08, 2009, 14:10 »

Hello there (first post, yay).

So it's some time now that i picked this new and wonderful game in its latest incarnation, and there are some questions that continue to puzzle me:

1# What does it mean "win a standard game with basic malee weapons"? What's the difference between this and AoB? Does it mean i cannot get a single kill with weapon other than malee weapons? Or maybe have the majority of kills with them? Or does it mean i only need to kill Cyberdemon with those weapons?

2# There's a badge for completing The Wall on AoB/AoM - how on earth is one supposed to do it? AFAIK phasing devices are supposed to take you only to the place you can get on foot anyway, right?(*) And there are no stairs to home onto.

(*) last time i went down there on AoSh with 6 phasing devices and not a single one put me through the wall.

3# Isn't it a bug that one can use a chain weapon during AoM? I'm talking about the Grammaton Clerk Beretta.

4# Isn't AoB a bit too easy? I mean, c'mon, this was my first win (ok ok, just had to brag a little. now got to check higher difficulties)

All in all - keep up the work on this incredible game!

#2) They can put you there, it's luck based
#3) GCB is a pistol, thus it's usable on AoMr - as simple as that :P
#4) Many if not most people don't find AoB easy. Consider yourself lucky or gifted ;)

#1) A standard game is a regular game, no Challenges. Basic Meele weapons probably means you must use only your fists, combat knives, and probably the chainsaw, and you cannot use anything else.

You just got REALLY unlucky with your 6 phase devices and the Wall. Once I failed to get into the middle Vault with 5 phase devices, then next game the first one put me inside.

The Beretta is a Unique weapon and is special so that's why. Try to find the Anti-Freak Jackal too, it's just like, it's just like, a mini, mall, he hey.*

*Actually it's like a mini rocket launcher.

#1) The differences between this badge and AoB are that uniques are out of the question, and large health globes don't work like berserk packs.

LHG's don't work like Berserk Packs on AoB, anyway :P

#1) You can complete on ITYTD and it's a LOT easier, even without LS. I completed City of Sculls on ITYTD without large meds. Small globes heal 20 HP there, such as meds.

I failed the 'knives and fists' challenge on ITYTD - you sure you can do it on that skill level?

First of all thank you for all your answers!

Now regarding the basic melee/knives and fists thing - so basicly it's AoB with harder prerequisites, one additional option (throwing knives) and bronze/silver badge instead of gold one for AoB? I wonder, shouldn't the badges then be swapped in place? Gold one for knives/fists and bronze for AoB?

Isn't the "knives&fists only" even harder, since you can't even get the chainsaw, and no other weapons are available? And yet the badge is of "lesser color".

Also - i think i have found a possible bug - nuking cyberdemon on Angel of Pacifism while under the influence of invulnerability globe does not count as win! Sure i get the "nuked the cyberdemon" in HoF, but it does not count towards the "complete the AoPc" badge.

It's only ever a good idea to nuke Cybie while invincible on AoPc if you have a spare nuke. Because losing to JC counts as a loss..

Long overdue answer (although you may have figured it out by now): the "knives and fists" challenge is limited to HMP at the lowest, possibly open to the higher difficulties.. but HMP is probably you're best bet :D.

Strongman gold badge is HMP but strongman silver is just "win with knives and fists". The wording is similar to the bronze badge so it sounds like it should be possible to complete on ITYTD if the bronze badge can be won that way but I haven't played those kinds of games myself so don't know.
