I cannot escape that level

That's the default command for southeast.

I have the diagonals set to -=][, because my laptop doesn't have a number pad and the default keys are in a non-intuitive position for diagonal movement.

I use the vikeys for movement on a laptop. hjkl are left, down, up, right, respectively, and yubn are the diagonals. It does require switching around some other keybindings, most notably u (i use 'a' for apply).

At first it might take some getting used to, but I've found that on a laptop i can use this just as fast as i can use the numpad on a normal keyboard.

Yeah, but escaping was not anything mentioned, and thats why I wanted to know why metroid mentioned it. Quite frankly, I'm more concerned about an unseen tile that must have, at one stage, been directly adjacent to floucrazykenny while he looked for stairs.

Because mine doesn't.

As for diagonal bindings, I use "Q", "W", "A", and "S".
