An alternate Ammochain trait progression for AoMC is to pick up Triggerhappy (2) after SoB (2).  This lets you one-volley Cacodemons with a vanilla Chaingun.  In full chainfire, it'll also kill Hell Knights in a single 8-round burst.  Then when you get a Plasma Rifle (sooner rather than later due to Former Commandos appearing early on UV or N!) you'll one-shot everything in sight besides Viles or Barons wearing blue+ armor.

BFG9000 still has a role if you need to kill several dozen monsters all at once, due to the explosions chaining off everything, but that's really only likely to come up in the Mortuary.

I'm still convinced the center Vault is also only filled with tears and lies, even after full clearing the level.  Even if you're lucky enough to land in there, enemy splash damage is likely to destroy anything valuable and the teleporter home, too, possibly leaving you stranded inside.

Also re: knockback, if you do breach the 12-damage threshold, each shot in the volley that hits will do knockback, so if you're perfectly level with a Baron or something, you'll see the corpse slide back six or seven spaces and leave a huge blood trail.  Humorous to see, but still something to avoid as a practical matter.
