CastlevaniaRL 1.2 Released
« on: July 09, 2006, 00:44 »

So, Kornel once said it was ok to promote other projects on his website (or so I remember), so just wanted to say that Castlevania 1.2 has been released... it has lots of new features like LOS, sound, targeted actions etc.

Check it out at http://crl.santiagoz.com

Hah! I never would have thought of doing a rogue-like with something like this! This is now my second favorite rogue-like. (Guess which one is my first favorite!)

Overall good update :)

Would be nice to have them if you ever rip them, right now they are crappy ;)

Also, they will be parametrizable on next version (ITD1 Created)

Oh joy-of-joys VBA has a sound recorder... The only problem is the music... so far I remembered a "silent spot" at the beggining of "Circle of the Moon" and managed to record 2 whip sounds and 2 jump sounds but thats mostly it... on the other hand if there is someone here capable of removing background music etc. from the wav files I could provide series of GBA-castlevania sounds - from whips strikes, to "getting hit", to monster sounds etc. we only need either a way of removing the music from recorded files or find places in those gemes where music doesn't play.

[EDIT] Corrected sounds - without the 0,5 sec pause before the sound here

Plus a bug - it happens when I try to start CastlevaniaRL again after playing it once and exiting:

<br />To be honest, Castlevania DS had a decent whip sound effect. However, Julius grunts when you attack sometimes, so I don't know how useful it'll be to you =(

EDIT: I noticed that even if I play as a female, I still sound like Nathan Graves =p

Yes, they have a bit of echo, but I think that will be no problem... I will include these as default on the next distribution.

Malek: Are there any viable Nintendo DS emulators available? If there are, then someone could unlock Dawn of Sorrow's sound test and get some attack/injury/death screams for female PCs.

Sadly there aren't... There is one capable of running Dawn of sorrow but the game was CRAWLING on my computer, and it didn't support any sound recorder...

But what you said isn't a bad idea - perhaps GBA castlevanias have sound tests (I remember Aria of sorrow had one - not sure wether it was music only or sounds too...) the only problem is that I would have to find time to beat them (lost saves for aria of sorrows, never had time to beat the other two)

Hmmm... this echo might be the result of the stage they were taken on... not completly sure though...

I think I have saves for AoS, CoTM and HoD very close to ending, dunno if I have a sound mode unlocked though. I will check that.

Yes, if they were taken from the first stage I think there is an echo there.

Thats a pretty good idea, specially considering there are no female protagonists on the GBA games

Ok... This is how it goes:
CotM - couldn't find info, there is a chance there isn't a sound mode in this part (the sounds I recorded already are from CotM)
HoD - sound mode unlocked after getting the best ending (need both rings for this, never actually played this game too much)
AoS - has sound mode, I've found the saves after all, but it only gives BGM and Voices, no "weapon sounds" etc. ... the only thing I can do is try to search for "silent spots" here :(

Sadly, there's no Sound Mode in CotM (nor is there a Hugh mode, gyaaaaaah).

Aria of Sorrow, as far as I remember, only has one silent spot- the initial area where Mina and Arikado stand around.

Now, let's see if I have this right: The various classes seem to be based on the following-

Vampire Killer: Leon, Sonia, Trevor, Simon, Juste, Richter, and Julius Belmont, Nathan Graves
Vampire Renegade: Alucard/Genya Arikado/Nathan Farenheit Tepes/Whatever he's calling himself this sequel
Vanquisher: Sypha and Yoko Belnades
Invoker: Maria Renard
Manbeast: Cornell
Knight: No idea, prolly Victor Belmont from the cancelled Castlevania: Resurrection?

Hehe, there's no chance that Soma's power of Dominance will make an appearance in any future edition, is there? =p

True, but Yoko Belnades is playable in the DS game (along with Julius and Alucard). Her death scream scares the living shit out of me. =p

Both Aria of Sorrow and Circle of the moon are silent at the save points spots once you load game, HoD is silent too but there is that thing beating on the background.

That was the first thing I've tried - sadly there is some ambient wind in background.

Now thats a nice thing to know... I mostly used VBA quicksaves and dropped to save points for healing so I didn't remember that... I'm fairly sure that the "heartbeat" dissapears after you save in AoS... so saving-loading and saving again should do the trick

PS. Whats the deal with getting "souls" on lvl up on in 1.2? What are the used for and how?

[EDIT]W00t - Deamon rank ^^
[EDIT 2]Checked it - the "heartbeat is only in HoD... but since HoD is probably the crappiest castlevania game ever we don't have to care much... AoS and CotM are soundless after load... the fun part is that the AoS save I found is a game + save - and that means I both have julius ulocked, several weapons and all the souls except plot-necessary ones... any specific order in which I should record the sounds? xD

Oh and when you add that mp3 or ogg support (ogg would probably be better as they take less) I can send 3 nice BGMS - Awake (that theme that plays after entering the first real corridor in CotM), Heart of Fire (AoS Julius Theme) and another Heart of Fire (from some other CV, completly diffrent music)

That's the name of the Catacombs theme from CotM? Awake? My God, I heart that song ^_^
<br />
<br />Also, a friend of mine burned some songs from SotN onto an audio CD for me a while back. If I find it, and somehow manage to get the songs off the CD, would you like Castle Corridor, The Slowly Sinking Staircase, and Final Stage- Chi no Rondo?
<br />
<br />(Which makes me wonder- does Illusionary Dance play when you finally get to Dracula?)

Well... it works on Linux as well... DOS has no official JavaVM, though there are some experimental independent ones out there you may want to try. I doubt sound would work tho.
