Finally FINALLY! yesterday I came back to DoomRL and today I have just done it.... the CYBERDEAMON is dead!

now.. I know it is not big thing to you but hey, I cant believe I made it with this character... I had had much better ones :P

Unlucky lad, didnt get a BFG on all the game, no phase devices, about 5 large kits on the whole game... had to run a lot and thus not many level ups... I ended up level 6

Hell was not too hot so I couldnt get arachnies fried by themselves, luckily last level stairs were pretty close to starting point, else...

Didnt take on the wall... yeah, me a pussycat

Found two thermo bombs, dropped them when short of inventory

The final fight with cybie! OMG...

I had two blue armors and a scrap of red armor... I dont think if I was overly lucky, but my tactic was to approach him so I could shot my overcharged rifles on his face... but all of a sudden I was playing with the cyberdeamon around a big pillar on the arena! He just followed me around giggling and shooting a rocket when he had a chance...  it was like a game! I could just overload my rifles and heal, with relative ease

I emptied like 5 overcharged plasma rifles on his face and then had to run away and finish him with my fastload rocket launcher

Wouldn't this be a "Yet Another Victory Post"? instead of "Yet Another Stupid Death"?

Anyways, congrats on killing the cybye, never did that myself. ;(

though thinking about it, there's no victory on DoomRL victory... so we can suppose tis' just another death.

Oh yes... it was latter on the night (2:30 AM to be exact)., and I had to get up early that day :p

(****) Only one arachnie, down with overcharged plasma tho I hadnt noticed it was almost dead because of my rockets, I ran a lot so evaded the rest of arachnies

By the way, what is the lower level somebody has beaten cyberdeamon on?

Congratulations Santi; you are now officially a man!

(Seriously though, how come the double shotgun can never be found till like level 16?  By then, what's the point of it?)

Thanks!

I dont think I found it that deep tho.. more likely level 10-12...

It had proven to be useful on previous games to dispatch baddies from far away, not the case of this game(I lost 2 marines triying to shoot down the deamon with double shotguns)

Hey guys, guess what...

Back when I had written my last post here, right afterwards I decided to play a little DoomRL.  I was saved at level 5, AND THE FIRST THING I FOUND was a double shotgun!  I even found a second one on level 7!

...

THIS IS NOW A MAGIC THREAD.

Yes this is a magic thread, send it to 10 of your contacts in 5 minutes and you will find a BFG just after the stairs on the base entrance! I didnt want to believe it was true, but it works!!!

First of all, congrats!

Sorry for resurrecting this old thread, but i can't stand seeing the trustworthy double shotty being written off as not usefull in the late game.

The double shotgun can be extremely usefull in mazes of rooms and hellish cities, since enemies are confined to small areas behind a door. Even without traits, coward tacticts for moving in sight should keep you safe enough, while aggresive tactics when shooting should give you the opportunity to duck back behind a wall again to reload. Fast monsters will still hit you, but you will not need a lot of luck to kill a BoH or a HK this way.

I also equip the doubleshotty before entering a level. If i enter the level in a room filled with enemies, at least i can damage a lot of them before switching to a gun that doesn't need to be reloaded every shot (chaingun or plasma rifle ofcourse).

And lastly, with the double shotty you can damage enemies out of sightrange, especially if they don't keep standing on top of ammo so you know where they are.

P.S. A double shotty will damage the cyberdemon more than an overcharged PR if he's close enough to chase you around a pillar.
