Wolf RL?

Margo:
Quoting: Santiago ZapataDont get mad at him Margo, it uses to happen!

So I see that my dear poor little Kornel has his own personal spokesman ^_^. I'm afraid it won't help him much. Better advice him Slash, which flowers should he buy me tommorow. Otherwise he can't count on forbearance. And the nervous RLdeveloper amounts to NOT THE MOST EFFECTIVE RLdeveloper. Do you really want that, guys? ^_^

Psycho:
I have thunk, and thought and done many other things, and i have decided

WolfRl could be done by your truly

Remember though
Im 15 with no coding experience whatsoever

I plan to use either
Visual Basic (my freind knows some, w00t)
or Freepascal

However, i must inquire, what is ValkaiteCMS library (or similar)
would it be easy to use?

I did half of a Design Doc for this and so far i have these "features"

-Weapons of diffrent strength (persay, 1 pistol might have 4 attack, whilst another might have 5, and so on)

-7 or 8 diffrent enemies, and 3 diffrent bosses (30 levles altogether)

-6 Weapons (i beleive)

3-5 Diffrent Level types

-2 diffrent ways to play, you could go stealth, or Gunz-a-blazin'

Definetly some sort of alarm system.

so, there you have it, if someone can point me to some sort of coding engine i can easily learn and use, i will create said roguelike (by Create i mean start and PROBABLY not finish.)

If Kornel or anyone else completes it before i do, good idea, id much rather play it than create it, as i have other, more important things to do (such as Homework!)

Thanks all

Andrew Freeman:
I admire your gumption (whatever that is), but I have a few ideas from I had from studying the game for the last couple days.

1.  The Pistol, Machine Gun, and Caingun all used the same ammo and dealt the same damage.  The only thing that changed was the rate of fire.

2. In the original, non-3d WOlfenstein, there were grenades and enemy uniforms you could wear.

3. In the Mac version of Wolf 3D, there were two extra weapons- the flame thrower, which ran on gas, and the rocket launcher, which used rockets.

Also, I'm gonna repost a link Kornel gave me.
http://www.wolfenstein3d.co.uk/enemies.htm

And here is one I found.
http://www.mac-archive.com/wolfenstein/index.html

Question, what enemies are you thinking about?  Because I can only think of 5 different enemies -- the rest are bosses and special level enemies.

Psycho:
i was thinking of making it with a few more enemies and weapons for the sake of variety

For enemies i was thinking prison guard, Brownshirt Guard, Guard Dog, SS Guard, SS stormtrooper, and zombies.

The prison guard is a weaker version of the Brownshirt, and the SS guard is an actual guard, whereas the SS stromtrooper will storm the level if an alarm is set off

as for weapons, i was looking at pistol Machinegun, Chaingun (of course) With a Kar98k, Sturmrifle, and Grenades

I own the original game, i should be fine, i just wanted to have more variety. Im planning on having the same ammo for Pistol Machinegun and Chaingun, and the same ammo for Kar98k and the sturmrifle (Sturmrifle is the first ever assault rifle btw)

I also have the original non 3d Wolfenstein.

Im not sure about uniforms, im thinking no, the only way you could get them is off a dead guard, and to get them you have to kill him, and i think people would notice a bit stab rip in the uniform ;)

As for bosses, i plan to have Hans Gross, Dr. Shcabbs and Hitler, there will be 3 "episodes" of 10 levels each, im not sure about secret levels.

No lives, 1 death only

For level types im planning
1. Jail
2.Generic "castle"
3. Armory
4. Kitchen
5. Lab

I admire your will, but I suggest you to make a smaller game before going into this, just so the oportunity is not wasted ;)

I wouldnt recommend Visual Basic

Quoting: Psychowhat is ValkaiteCMS library

ValkirieCMS is a top-notch web tool used to generate high quality roguelike websites..

.. now... 'Carceri' is (will be?) a data driven roguelike engine which I hope doesnt get corrupted by unneeded LUA crap, with which you will be able to create all sorts of fun themed roguelikes without needing to code.

Quoting: Psychoif someone can point me to some sort of coding engine i can easily learn and use,

Java is a pretty nice coding engine, you may want to give it a look at http://java.sun.com or tutorials around the web

Quoting: PsychoCreate i mean start and PROBABLY not finish.

Thats not the spirit! :/
