Why do people keep on saying the megasphere is a myth?

I think I've found them too.  Spoiler (click to show/hide)But it's always weird.  I've seen them in two games now, out of roughly 100, and each time I saw them once I saw them again on a later floor in that game.  So to be serious for a moment I think any chance of them showing up is determined upon starting a game, which might explain why some people have never seen them.
Or claim to have never seen them.
Or maybe I've never seen them
