The f***ing Caco's keep on destroying me!
Wasn't the last level of the first episode of doom called hell gate? If so the boss of this level should be the bruiser brothers.
Oh i have finished doom and doom2 on htp mode
and i have finished [the version BEFORE master traits]doom rl on itytd mode about 64 times [i used to savescum thats why i finished it so many times but i have stopped savescumming]

Use RL to blow walls before they fall down to eliminate enemies. If you do not have RL, I usually walk forward and when the walls falls down I run (press TAB) and run back to the first room.

What Melon said.  RL is by far the best option if you can afford the rockets.  Although to be honest, you're closer to the other side of the room by the time the walls collapse.  If you don't need the door, you could destroy it ahead of time (just fire at it) and run for that opening instead.  The UV Viles are nearer the first room, so this is probably the better option.

Additionally, you could just phase outta there.  The walls still fall down if you pass the column (and, should there be imps, they can open the door) but it does make things a bit simpler.  If you're having trouble with the first wave...heh.  You'll enjoy the second.

Yeah, doing the Wall and getting the missile launcher, then stockpiling a couple stacks of rockets, will make Hell Gate a breeze. With enough rockets it's more than possible to get through while taking almost no damage at all.

I take it you haven't gotten through yet. Try playing on ITYTD for a while, if you haven't already.

And, the last level of the first episode is called Phobos Anomaly, and has almost nothing in common except BB with the DoomRL's HellGate.
