Couldn't switch to stick with 'z' - got "You can't!" message.

Both the pistol and the stick are cursed. The stick has the same properties as the fists and is only there to prevent people from abusing juggler to make things easier for them. You can ignore it safely.

The error code i don't know much about. I've been seeing those every time i quit the game for a while now, but i don't know the reason. Perhaps, someone with code access could clarify?

Hi all, I've never visited the Modding forum before, but this kind of looks like fun so maybe I'll give it a try...  at Nightmare difficulty, of course.  ;)

EDIT:  Erm...  this may sound like a total newb question, but how do I get it to play the module?

Whatever rocks your box, man, but don't say i didn't warn you. It's going to take a while.

Modules 101: Download the archive, extract into the "modules" directory under the DoomRL directory (it should create a "patience.module" directory there), then select it from the "Custom Game" screen. Have fun, if you can.

Ah, okay!  I didn't realize I had to copy the whole folder in there; I had just copied the files within the folder.  Anyway, it seems to be working now.  Thanks!  :)

EDIT:  FYI, it crashed at the end of my first attempt after showing the mortem.  Here's the error.log entry:

All modules will crash on ending in console mode, due to some bug that (I think) involves drawing of the loading bar.

Because I felt like it, I want to give a rundown of the traits and which ones will actually do anything in this module:

Basic
Ironman: Yes
Finesse: Yes
Hellrunner: Yes
Tough as Nails: Yes
Son of a Bitch: Yes
Son of a Gun: Yes
Reloader: Yes
Eagle Eye: Yes
Brute: Yes

Advanced
Juggler: Useless, since both weapons are cursed and the stick has the same damage as a normal fist attack.
Berserker: Yes, but you need Brute 3 for it to have any effect, since melee hits must break the 10 damage barrier to proc berserk.
Dualgunner: Useless unless you are going for Bullet Dance or Gun Kata.
Dodgemaster: Yes
Intuition: Yes
Whizkid: Yes, but Armor/boots only.
Badass: Yes
Shottyman: Useless, obviously.
Triggerhappy: Useless unless you are going for Bullet Dance or Cateye.

Masters
Blademaster: Yes
Vampyre: Yes
Malicious Blades: Useless, the sharp stick is not a blade.
Bullet Dance: Yes, but requires otherwise useless traits.
Gun Kata: Yes, but only the fire time reduction, and it requires otherwise useless traits.

Army of the Dead: Useless, obviously.
Shottyhead: Useless, obviously.
Fireangel: Useless, due to a bug in the core game at this time.

Finished it for the first time. Only on ITYTD, but still!

I left zerks on the ground for the last waves, and kept a couple envirosuits in my inventory in case I needed to tank some fire damage.

After failing to pass round 2 of Nightmare a bunch of times, I decided that yeah, maybe it really is impossible.  :P  (and maybe I really am a crazy son of a bitch)  ;)  Here's an ITYTD game from last night, though:

Shielded Armor in round 10 plus Dodgemaster made it a piece of cake; I would close to melee range and they'd be helpless before my pointed stick of fury!  :D  I'll download the new version and try again at a higher difficulty level.

EDIT:  And I just noticed a typo in the ending dialogue:  "The boice booms!"

The resistance system has really changed the was this challenge plays since I cleared it back in 0.9.9.4

(Of course, I'm just biding my time until my own HMP victory)  ;)

In the mean time, just for fun, I did an ITYTD Bullet Dance run:

It made things tense for a time in the middle since I had to waste two levels on useless traits, but once I got MBD, the endgame was a breeze, drilling Barons and Mancubi with 2 or 3 bullets at a time.  Having the extra firepower combined with infinite ammo is all the more fun when you have the feeling that you've earned it.  :)

Really, what made this game for me was the combination of Nanofiber red armor, and cornershooting like crazy. I nuked the level late on, so I didn't lose my cover very much. All in all, a very fun mod.
