The Master and the Minion - OOC thread
« on: June 17, 2010, 14:33 »

Well... I've cracked. I'll be leading a D&D4 game. The specifics... well, I don't want to give away too much. Let us simply say, for the moment, that you are noble heroes that are well on the way to ridding the land of an Evil Overlord.

You get to start off at level 3, and that means you get 520gp, one magic item each of level 4, 3, and 2, and as much mundane gear as is reasonably needed.

I believe that so far Malek, Gargulec, and... SK, was it?, have already expressed interest. I've already got M's character on hand, too. So, if you want to participate, do hurry.

Well my character is done. Say hello to Ryltar - Drow Rogue.

„Hey watch where you are you pointing that thing. What? Color of my skin? Oh come on – I left *that* behind me long ago. I’m one of good guys – like d-wosisname. Well okay, maybe not that good – I don’t do charity. But give me a good pay and I’ll help to clear monsters from near town or whatever gladly.
Huh? How did I get here? Simple – like I said I ran from great Underdark. Got lucky too – first people I’ve met up here didn’t judge by skin color and helped me out. Sad thing though, somebody back down didn’t like me leaving and sent few guys after me – killed the family that helped me, nothing I could do. After that I went to some larger town, tried to settle somehow. But of course some baron or whoever had to die and the guard captain was all ‘Get the drow, it must have been the drow’ – bloody half elves are more prejudiced against us than fullbloods I tell ya. Good thing he didn’t knew I’m good with locks, so he didn’t take the lockpicks off me – I ran from there too. I started to think afterwards and came to conclusion – ‘hey, getting myself some good rep would prevent misunderstandings like that’. And thus I am here, trying to find myself a group of whatyoucallem – adventurers. You know – buy me some ale, and perhaps we can work out some deal profitable for both of us…”

My character is done as well. Prepare to meet Ma'kirr - Razorclaw Monk (F)

"If its a drink you want, then by all means drink. And I'll make you a wager while were on the subject. If you can out drink me, all agree to whatever terms you want as far as adventuring goes. But if you lose, I expect to see some half-naked elf-boy dancing on this table. "
'Oye, Keep. Get us a round of ale. After that we'll need drink that's harder than a smith's anvil.'
"I hope you can dance Ryltar..."

Five people in all... I think we're good to go, then. Mad, Tav, you go ahead and make characters. Refer to Malek for suggestions on what might be a good idea. SK, a character story, even a very basic one, would be a good idea.

My Character story is on the file I sent you. Check the Information tab under Manage in the Character Builder. I suppose I could attach a .txt here if it turns out I sent you the un-updated file w/o my backstory.

No, I'd say you're pretty much good to go.

That just leaves Tavana and Madtrixr, then.

Saliak, Dragonborn Runepriest, brings the drinks to the table atop his shield.

"It is only fair that I mediate these precedings. But please do not strip off, Ryltar. I do not want to have to trace the Rune of Blindness in this drinking establishment, but there are fates worse than losing your sight."

His scaly arms extend and each competitor has four ales placed in front of them. He pretends to considers for a moment (yes, his bluff check IS that low) "As for you, Ma'kirr, I suppose the Rune could be traced in such a fashion that it affects everyone BUT me..."

Tristan, Half-Elf paladin, sits on the opposite side of the table, playing a merry tune on his pan flutes.

'I'll give up the drinking tonight' he says, grinning. 'Just in case our feline Lady loses the contest, and I will want to remember the Ryltar's prize well...' He pauses and gives you all an innocent look. 'Of course I've meant that I will have to be sober to protect her honour, should some evil doer try to disgrace her!'

He chuckles, and returns to playing, watching rest of the party with curiosity in his eyes.

"My dear furball, I'm afraid I can't agree to your proposal - after all I don't intend to get so drunk I won't understand what we agree to." - Ryltar mocks a toast to Ma'kirr with a grin then takes a sip

'Such a shame that you don't have the courage, Darkskin' replied Tristan, laughing. 'Feline Lady, you challenged us, and our good Dragonhead brought us the ale that should not go to waste. Would you agree to compete against me, Lady? After all, we can not appear to be all of chicken hearts!'

Suddenly off kilter, Ma'kirr falls back off her chair laughing
"Whooo, that was fun. I suppose that's what I get for challenging someone to a drinking game for the third time today. Well then, I guess I'll be traveling with you then."

Dance, I don't know how to..." She paused a minute and smiled. "OK, I think I can do something along those lines."
Clearing a space in near their table in the tavern, She stuck her spear firmly in between the floorboards. With a leap, she jumped up and balanced on the top. Slowly she began to sway back and forth, twisting bowing over, leaning back, spinning. Slowly she began getting more adventurous; doing flips and handstands, extending out from the spear farther than you would think possible without falling. After about 10 minutes of this she got bored and with a final flip, descended.
"Happy?"

For a minute or two Tristan sat silently, looking at Ma'kirr in awe.

'By the Gods, Feline Lady, eyes of such a lowly knight as I should not be allowed to witness such perfectness' he exclaimed, falling on his knees. 'All I can ask you know is to beg you to allow me to become your knight, to protect and help you in every way you can imagine! I offer you my sword, my soul and my courage, your will will be me order, should you only accept my service!'

Saliak grins at Ryltar, pulling him away from the table "Let's go find something else to do. Either the ales will make them forget this conversation, or the Rune of Befuddlement will."

On their way out, he drops a few silver on the bartop, calling to the barkeep, "For my friend here. I'd suggest you hold the drinks from the half-elf with the alleged 'fuzz ball' over there. Otherwise he might forget his solemn duty to pay for her ladyship."

Turning to Ryltar and pushing through the door he suggests "Oh! We could play hide and seek! I do need to practice identifying likely hiding places for stealthy enemies."

Suddenly, from the corner, a tall man clad in armor, and with shoulder length brown hair comes over to Saliak and Ryltar and askes in a strong voice "Excuse me gentlemen, I couldn't help but overhear you and your...companions" he points at the drunk Paladin and Monk. "and I heard something about adventure, is this true?"

"Hide and seek you say?" - Ryltar whispered and pointed at the armored man - "Oh look, this nice man wants something from you"

Using moment of confusion he created drow merged with the crowd in the inn.

Siliak twists his head around and sighs, "Well, currently the only adventure is keeping the drunkards from falling off the table, and finding the Drow who is better at hiding when he's had a few litres of alcohol than before. Care to help me with searching for him while I describe to you the plans for 'Operation: Get Rid of Evil Overlord'?"

Sadly, by the dragonborn's features, you can tell that he isn't joking.

My father is Pender Uthadar, a man who used to be an adventurer of some reknown, My mother is Hollystina, a Cleric of Avandra who settled down, and my Brother, Norian, a Cleric of Pelor who is off on some adventure...But enough about me, let's go find that rogue. And, perhaps, you can tell me a bit about yourself, if you wish."

The dragonborn shrugs, a sight you don't see every day. "I suppose it would do no harm to tell you of my past." His fingers trace faint runes into the air as he waves his way in and out of the people in the bar. They hang in the air, and the patrons stare at them for a moment before going back to their drinks.

"I serve and study the runes, as you may have noticed. I do not seek power, but studing them will grant it. My master died trying to master them. He tried to grasp further than he should have. He did not have the strength that I thought he did. As he was my father, I was honor bound to complete his task. I will find and master the runes. Or I will die. I will bear no offspring until that task is complete. I could not bear to pass this task on to another."

Having completed a full circuit around the establishment the runes hanging in the air flicker and fade away. "Well, he's not in the main section, and those will warn me if he enters again. Perhaps he has forgotten this game and gone to the bathroom."
