"Wow. This Shield...this is really something! And you're saying...if we kill more things, we can get even better stuff? I haven't had such a good source of awesome weaponry and Armor...ever, I think!"

Saliak changed into his armor, strapping the bracers tightly onto his scales. If they saw fit to outfit him with better equipment, so be it. The dragonborn waiting for the others, saying nothing.

Aden gears up, and has his brand new shiny shield equipped. He dramatically puts on his Helmet

"Ready."

"Well, you took your sweet time," the Overlord said as you returned to the throne room. "I believe we should start off your career with a clear message to future heroes and those who would aid them. Here is your target..."

The Overlord raised his left hand, the gauntlet flaring up with blue light. On the other end of the chamber, the pool of water bubbled and soon formed into a sphere of water hovering in mid-air. The surface shimmered for a moment before presenting a picture of a quiet little village, one that seemed vaguely familiar.

"The town of Denach. They seem to have made a career of bringing together random individuals, getting them drunk, selling them overpriced weapons, and sending them off into the wide world under the pretense of fighting one evil or another. You might not recall the place too clearly, but that is where your own adventure kicked off. Now, the idea itself is laughable and was amusing for a time. However, they are starting to produce borderline-competent parties, as your own example shows. I should think it's high time you went back there and showed them what became of their heroes."

The Overlord lowered his hand, the water reverting to its normal form and splashing back down into the pool.

"Sack and raze the place. Send every building up in smoke, and slay any that try to stop you. Do leave some villagers alive, though - we want the news to spread, after all. Also, though I hope you don't need reminding, the correct order of action is pillage, then burn. No doubt they have a fair amount of gold stored up from fleecing adventurers like yourselves. Only fair you take it back, hmm? Now, as for additional orders... Mortis!"

"I am here, master," came a hoarse voice from behind the throne as a small figure stepped into view. It resembled the other goblins you'd seen before, but this one had webbed hands and feet (though the webbing itself was dried and shriveled), its skin was a bluish grey, and it was swathed in a dirty, tattered old robe. It also had a small scythe resting on its shoulder, and a pouch in one hand. The creature approached you, holding the pouch out for you to take.

"Thanks to all those heroes around the place, we were never able to set up a proper portal there. You will fix that issue. Once you are done razing the town, plant the contents of that pouch in the ground and stand well back. My portals can get you to within a reasonable distance of the town, but until you anchor a new one, it will be a one-way trip. Do not think you will be beyond my sight or control, though. Of course, I do not insist you charge in and attack the town immediately. I will leave the particulars to you, but I expect the town destroyed within a reasonable frame of time."

The Overlord settled back into his throne. "Unless you have any questions, my minions will show you to the nearest portal."

Tristan bowed his head/

'Your will, my liege shall be done. Even if it is as twisted and vile as your soul.'

He looked at his family shield, reminding himself to remove the crest from it, so it won't be disgraced by his fall.

Saliak raised his warhammer and lightly pressed it against his shield, a vague reminder of his silent defiance not so long ago. The dragonborn nodded and began to search for the minion waiting to lead on towards the portal.

"Okay, we're ready. Now we just need the portal, and we'll be on our way, Commander." Norian takes the pouch from Mortis and puts it away.

"So how are we going about this? Should we just start killing everything that moves? Or perhaps killing everyone coming to or leaving town for a few days before attacking the town itself. Maybe we could blend into the people at the bar and start there." Ma'kirr suggested. She would much prefer a less direct confrontation if it mean higher success rate.

"The last idea is actually a preferable plan of action. we don't go all out right away, we have to wait a while, lay low, and then make our move. If we do it right, we won't have much trouble, do it wrong, and we will be wiped out...So I suggest we go to the inn, sort of chill for a while, and then find a way to go about our grim task."

The dragonborn grunts and shakes his head "How easily we forget. We will not go unnoticed there. We set out from that place. Far too many have seen our faces for us to be inconspicuous. Consider the timing as well. They will see us as coming back from this Dark Tower, perhaps even hailing us as heros. It seems to me the easiest way to crush the town's resistance is to enter the town as heros, but ask to speak to the Mayor. If possible, get the leader of the town's guard apart as well. Tell them we have uncovered new and important information regarding the future of the town. Slay the town's heads in quiet, and inform the populace of our deeds. This may crush their will to fight. However, this may not be possible, if they have learned the truth of our death and fall.

"Ah. A valid point, and an excellent plan. Are you sure you didn't go to military school, Saliak?" Aden says in a tone that indicates his approval and his envy of why he didn't think of that at all. "Let me do the talking, although I may need back up."

Your conversation and planning went on as one of the minions led you down another stairwell, out the lobby and out the main gates of the tower. After enough time spent in the dark confines of the tower, returning to sunlight was a bit painful at first, but you got used to it quickly enough again. The minion continued leading you, down the causeway that led up to the gates, though once past that it quickly turned off to the right - the path it took was rather hard to see among all the jagged rocks, and it's unlikely you would have found it on your own.

The portal itself wasn't terribly impressive. It was a half-circle of raised, crudely carved stone pillars, with a raised stone platform in the middle of them.

Also here was Tristan's faithful steed, casually grazing on the sparse grass it'd found here.

Tristan ignored his horse. Honestly, he was never a good rider nor ever felt somehow bound to his steed. Of course, he would not admit it- instead claiming that he let the equine go to "allow it to avoid the corruption of serving the Overlord", but even he did not really believed in it. The horse was just too much hassle for him.

With a grim face, he entered the portal.
