nice one Klear :) do you also play as Martians when playing SMAC/X or Galactic Civilizations? :)

Sometimes, but it's not so much fun in such games.

@ZicherCZ

I'm from Prague myself. I was in Ostrava once and it is beautiful (disclaimer, I love industrial architecture and socialist realism). Love at second sight indeed.

Glad to hear that :).
I even lived in Prague for over seven years, so I know it inside out. Except for the overcrowded tourist centre, I liked it as well :).

Not difficult to guess, I beleive :). Do you happen to know the city as well?
I have been living & working there for the last 2 years. But 3 months ago I moved back to Warsaw :) .

It seems that we have a strong presence in Central Europe ^__^ (*cought* Kornel *cough*).

finished that game with a cultural win, heavily inclined to remove Civ3 off my system. It appears it's "same old same old" Civ2 with some nice added features, with the gameplay not getting altered. Mass anything that attacks and defends, smite-smite-smite, win.
Apparently, Civ 3 is regarded as one of the worst versions. At some point the ranking was: 4 > 2 > 3 > 1 when it comes to "gameplay experience".
Then we got 5th Civ ...and the Civ 4 remains as the best one, still :P .

This is from statistics of the video I made. I'm assuming most/all views were people from this forum.

Maybe we could arrange some meetup in the summer?

I did, rofl :P .
The world is simply way too small - I work for Tieto since 2009 :).
As for the summer meeting - there's an annual meeting of old games and platforms fans called Bytefest (Amiga, Atari, arcade games, whatever suits you) held in Prague during the weekend Sep 21-23. I'm regularly visiting this event as a MAME player, but surely we can have a small DoomRL corner there as well (as long as you wouldn't mind me leaving for some two-player arcades and/or more beer) :). More info (in Czech) available here.

By the way, for those who have missed it: Duke Nukem meets Doom and Heretic in this very nice crossbreed.

The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time 3D.  I'll do 100% then I'll do Master Quest 100%.

Even though I loved Ocarina of Time, I always thought it was overrated and Majora's Mask was a cooler game.  But if only the new Zelda games could re-achieve that glory...

My Zelda game preference ranking since I'm on the subject:
  • Link to the Past.  Greatest Zelda game ever, prove me wrong!  Dark world was awesome.
  • Majora's Mask.  All the sidequests and the interesting results from failing some of them were amazing, but unfortunately these features were dependent on the 3 day system so we'll never see it again.
  • Link's Awakening.  Similarly to OoT, this set the standard for handheld Zelda games which in my opinion hasn't been matched yet.  This game holds a special place in my heart, and being unable to find the cartridge makes me sad :(  Did I sell it?
  • Ocarina of Time.  Obviously it defined the direction for 3D Zelda games, but I think Majora's Mask was an improvement in nearly all aspects.  The time travel was neat though.
  • Legend of Zelda.  Obviously it has to be close to the top.  Actually a really hard game, which I like.
  • Adventure of Link.  This oddball sequel gets some hate, but I think it's a solid game.  Also really hard, often called the hardest.
  • Twilight Princess. Not the greatest Zelda games but still solid. If I had to draw a semi-reasonable line at which Zelda games were great, this would be the last one to make the cut, no offense to the other ones (unless otherwise noted).  Despite the large and relatively detailed world it felt a bit empty, like the castle town being full of nobodies and Hyrule Field being huge yet relatively uninteresting.
  • Wind Waker. This gets a lot more hate than it deserves.  The sailing parts were relatively boring, but otherwise I enjoyed it.
  • Minish Cap.  I liked the detail of the town and the large number of sidequests.  Nothing really spectacular though.
  • Skyward Sword. Really wish I could rank it higher since it was so fresh, but with few exceptions the combat system boiled down to just shaking the Wiimote a lot.  The flying had a lot of the same problems as Wind Waker's sailing which shows they didn't learn as much as I thought/hoped.  The save point system was a complete step backwards for a series which, with the mild exception of the original two (required up+A or some such on the second controller on the NES) and more of an exception for Majora's Mask (which was a pretty exceptional case and you could still play the song of time and save anytime after learning it, which happened after an introductory 3 day cycle) allowed saving anywhere.  It's nice to have new villains, but man, fighting one boss three times?  And another, really annoying boss also three times?  The inventory system was interesting, but it wasn't terribly important.  The shield system though, was just annoying.  Parry attacks or lose shield durability, and with shields being as fragile as they are, this means you should probably just keep swinging your sword, which is mostly what I did.  Then I got the regenerating shield which has even lower durability, but if your shield's taking that much of a beating in such a short time there's bigger problems.  Just for completeness I went ahead and fully upgraded my old shields even though there was no point anymore.  The subweapons were also pretty lame overall.  Not many of them really have much direct combat utility.
  • Spirit Tracks.  I actually managed to enjoy controlling the train.  The touch controls of the DS were unfortunately quite weak, especially whenever you had to direct Zelda.
  • Phantom Hourglass. The sailing for the most part wasn't as bad as Wind Waker, but it wasn't as fun either.  Plus the controls were awkward.
Unranked:
  • Four Swords.  It's a completely separate beast.  It is fun if you can get the players though.  I wish the DSiware port was online...
  • Four Swords Adventures.  Despite being completely playable in single-player (and it's pretty fun but also really easy) it's still a separate beast.  It's also a good moneygrubbing opportunity for Nintendo, though, requiring the GBAs for multiplayer...
  • Oracle of Ages and Oracle of Seasons.  I've only ever played a bit of Oracle of Ages.  It seemed decent, but I can't rank it just based on that.
  • That crossbow training junk.  I pretend it doesn't exist.
  • CDI games?  What CDI games?
  • BS Zelda, because I never played it.
  • Any Tingle spinoffs.  Never played, never will.

Holy crap, I put a lot more effort into this post than is reasonable...

I played through the original first Unreal few days ago. Neat game. Now I'm tempted to play through both System Shock games again.
While thinking about it, I realized I still thing SHODAN is the better villain than GLaDOS...
