Going for the Strongman series in general seems to make me want to skip the intermediate steps and just aim for the Diamond (and/or that Elite Diamond) since I doubt the absolute ridiculousness of the difficulty can't steep up THAT much.  Still, I suppose the difference between +1 and +2, as well as the number of spawns, might really change things.

Well as I said, I had a lot of spider caves and that one room of them also added up a lot of those kills. Cybie isn't so bad when you have a berserk going, and neither is anything else really so yeah. Had no nukes in the whole run kinda forced the punching.
And yes I have been trying UV but honestly speaking, the start of UV with the two shotgunners is rather frustating. They ruin my run 90% of the times, you can't heal enough from the medpacks and you're ping ponged between them, exiting the level with 40% and no healthpacks doesn't really help much either.

Honestly if I go try get the Diamond, I'll rather go all nightmare and take the Demonic while at it, considering I might actually be able to exit the first stage with some health left.

The english language does not have words strong enough to fully agree with this statement. I have racked up hundreds of deaths going after the demonic diamond and only once have I made it to the Hellgate. Even that took a handful of lucky berserk packs. I still think it's possible, but the amount of luck needed may be too much to reasonably expect.
