that thing is just too dam long to play without any saves. Imagine a blackout at AoPu N! within this challenge - POOF, about three days of playing are gone. I expect that saving should be allowed at the very start of each challenge on each difficulty (maybe except N! as it's Nightmare!)

I had a similar idea to Angel of Gauntlet except as a real challenge instead of a horrible idea.

Ander Hammer, you should read descrtiption of the entire "gauntlet", and find out it includes HNTR/HMP/UV plays throughout every challenge. So, in case of a said game got ruined to a blackout at N! somewhere, the unfortunate player will be able to restart from last UV challenge, without taking HNTR/HMP/UV first.

Actually not a bad idea.

Well, I posted it here since I originally intended it to be "Angel of Die Hard" where you can't wear any boots. That would be silly.

Edit: In any case, everything I'm forced to walk through acid/lava without boots I think of Die Hard =)

I think that it would be more fitting if it was something like "walked over 100 tiles of hazardous terrain without boots".After all, the point was getting hurt by glass, not just random walking.

Sorry, I didn't notice the part where 'you cannot save' in Angel of Gauntlet post.

DoomRL was groundbreaking because it supported the use of sound to guide players.  Let's take it up a notch!

DoomRL KTV add-on!  We can make use of the microphone to "sing" special tunes that does special things to the monsters and/or the level.  It can even be an area attack if it is particularly beautifully sung (demons hate nice sounding music).

Better yet, incorporate voice-recognition commands!  Suddenly DoomRL is like a commander ordering his poor soldier to go into hell and kill'em all before coming back (if at all).

Probably considered a horrible idea by most people... but...

Female Marines (DoomGirls?)

Mainly because I feel bad for a DoomGuy if I just give him a girls name and pretend. Because I can't help thinking: "clearly he was a guy, its just he got given a girly name by his squadmates". :D

And all this is because I can always think of badass girls from anime that actually have some of the skills I'd be learning in game (i.e. they actually demonstrate Gun Kata, or Malicious Blades), and whom are still sufficiently whiny enough for me to want to get them killed in a Roguelike, too. :D

DoomGirls have been suggested on several occasions, I'm not going to bother digging up those threads. The conclusion of most of them is that gender could be set in the config.lua, but it presents some string problems, such as trait names and descriptions. Son of a Gun/Bitch and Dualgunner both have an obviously masculine trait name or make reference to "babes" (not going to sift for the exact wording). Also all the personal pronouns in mortem files (He was an Angel of.... He was a real killing machine.... etc).

For what it's worth, I think that it would be a cool feature, but would probably be underused. DOOM has historically been a pretty lopsided boys' club of a game, and Kornel probably banked on that fact when coding DoomRL. I'm not saying that girls don't play DOOM or DoomRL, I've just got a pretty strong suspicion that there aren't a whole lot of them.
