After a while i got tired of posting separate threads for every song (and the community got tired of replying to every one of them). Thus, this Doom the Roguelike: The Album All-In-One Mega Thread was created, merging in all the others.

I even went and edited my posts to better reflect their new context. Unfortunately, some posts that aren't mine still look weird and out-of-place, but it's not too bad compared to the mess that was here previously.

(Our apologies to thelaptop for taking over his thread and driving him out of business! :P )

Can't say that I liked Doom the Roguelike Theme and Too Hot Down Here but others are great. Especially Hell's Weapons (midi version rule!) and Unholy Cathedral.

I might just be ever so slightly retarded but when i attempt to switch over to the .ogg files, the game crashes. I do think i am doing it correct (Well duh, obviously not since i need to ask), i first tried with the flac files to no avail and then after that i tried it with the .ogg files following it to the letter. No go.
So, simply. Anyone care to post an already modified musicmp3.lua?
And yes, i have manually pointed to the musicmp3.lua in the config.lua file.

Would be very helpful anyways, since i like the .ogg versions of the songs way more then i like the midi versions.
Thanks!

Here's my own. Please note that it uses a combination of the suggested MP3s, Sonic Clang's remixes and my own music; You will either need to edit it to match your sound files or get all the files mentioned.

Without the usual long preambles (see previous posts if you'd like to see what they were like), and with great humility over the apparent impatience (which directly led to the unfortunate double post), i present my misplaced attempt at the theme themes for Hell's Arena, aptly named Rounds of Hell (parts 1-3) for what happens to be peer review.

Of exactly one person.

(More details are to be found in the first post).

I like them, but I think they sound too much like the UC and DoomRL themes, particularly parts 1-2.  Part 1's silences also sound a bit forced.  Is it currently possible to use them all in the Arena or would it have to be Arena/CC/TheOtherPlace?

edit: well, they made me want to hear UC theme again, and listening to that I wonder why I don't play melee more often :)  Is there any Contra influence in that one (2:24, and a similar bit earlier)?

I wanted to create a feeling of deja vu when you reach both the Arena and UC, and the music is supposed to escalate as you overcome wave after wave of the Arena.

Is it currently possible to use them all in the Arena or would it have to be Arena/CC/TheOtherPlace?
Afraid not, but hopefully The Kornel will implement it in the first beta of 0.9.9.5. I would disrecommend using them for different levels, though, as the results will be unpredictable.

Not that i know of (and i specifically went and listened to every Contra track to make sure). Contra kicks ass, though.

Without the usual long preambles (see previous posts if you'd like to see what they were like) and just in time for New Year and DoomRL 0.9.9.5, i present my misplaced attempt at the theme for The Wall, aptly named The Brick Song, for what happens to be peer review.

Of exactly one person.

(More details are to be found in the first post).

P.S.: This track had 52 drafts before reaching RC state. Talk about a coincidence.

I really like The Brick Song.  Something Wicked is still my personal favorite, but this is pretty high up on my list (especially the non-midi versions; the percussion seems louder on my system in the midi version).

Can I ask what software you use to make your music?  I've wanted to try my hand at music for a long time, but I haven't been willing to spend any money :x

Thank you for the kind words. They are always welcome.

The MIDI versions are provided for compatibility reasons only; The difference between the sounding on different systems (and even on the same system with different setups!) is rather great, and it almost never sounds like what the composer intended. For all practical purposes, the binary/rendered versions are preferred.

This comes up fairly often. I guess i should make a FAQ entry or something.

My actual requirements are fairly simple. I need a MIDI sequencer of some sorts that can do some kinds of effects, a MIDI player/renderer that can write to WAV and a collection of high-quality samples for it. For a while now, these requirements were satisfied by TuxGuitar (which behaves a whole lot like GuitarPro (or so i heard), and also provides the benefit of being able to verify offhand that the composition will be playable on real-world instruments), FluidSynth for the rendering and Frank Wen's Fluid, release 3 as the soundfont.

Truth to be told, you don't need any kind of awesome software to create; All you need is enough inspiration and persistence to make a 30-second, four-instrument loop that doesn't suck. Later, when you improve so much that you grow out of your tools, you will know what you need to replace them with.

I thought I'd throw in my inconsequential opinion and say your tracks are great!  Doom with a twist - quite fitting for a game like DoomRL.

I use you tracks along with the PSX soundtrack.  It makes the levels with your songs all the more exciting as they juxtapose with the ambient works of Aubrey Hodges really well.

Can't wait for the full album... :)

Yeah... in the announcement thread I mentioned that at first I didn't like the new music, then I got used to it and that I think that in short time I'll love it. Well, it has already happened. I especially love the piano in one of the tracks (not sure which one right now though).

Without the usual long preambles (see previous posts if you wish to see what they were like) and completely missing the DoomRL 0.9.9.6G release, i present my misplaced attempt at the theme for The Vaults, aptly named Dark Secrets, for what happens to be peer review.

Of exactly one person.

Pity he won't be able to do it for a while.

(More details are to be found in the first post).

A fair warning: most of this track is "ambient", and there is some repetition. Some people find this sort of stuff "uninteresting". I can't help you with that, so just crank up the music volume, sit back and enjoy the ride while doing something else (like killing the resident mancubi and arkh-viles, for example).
