I have been playing normal game, restricted only to melee weapons.
And I have the question...

What the damn hell is wrong with the berserking? I got previously killed by some retarded sergeant, even though I had +30% HP while berserk.
Now I got killed by AD even though I had berserk all the time. 30-40% HP gone in one hit. Med-pack->Hit->Med-pack->Hit->Hit-> mortem?

This is the infamous 'zerk bug in 0.9.9.1, which is fixed in 0.9.9.2.

The long and short of it is that some of the 'zerk bonus is errorneously added to the opponent instead of the player.  This is the sole reason why I abstained from playing melee games for 0.9.9.1.

Luckily you can tell whether you get a good berserk or a bad one. If you obtain berserk status off of a hit that kills a mob, you have a bad berserk. During a bad berserk further berserks (either from globes or traits) only add to the duration. The only solution is to wait it out.

Granted I do have the Berserker diamond and the Arena diamond, so melee is possible in 0.9.9.1, but the bug is annoying so I'm just waiting for the new version to play melee again.

This is the sole reason why I abstained from playing melee games for 0.9.9.1.
Also the reason I have more 0.9.9 diamonds then 0.9.9.1.

Rest assured that the 'zerk bug will be fixed before the release of 0.9.9.2.

Now, if we can have the "hang when the final bosses are killed" bug fixed as well...

After all this talk about AoB I had to try a Vampyre build again. Yeah I still can't get past the bug, but I did realize that with Vampyre you don't want the last level of brute. With only brutex2 and your fists there is a chance that the first hit on a lost soul won't kill it. So the only way around the bug I've found is to get MVm, only brutex2 and a pain elemental. Carefully kill lost souls one at a time with your fists, hope for a non-lethal berserk blow. Then after you finally get a good berserk, go wild. It's not a great solution, but it's something.

On M there are no Pain Elementals in UC, and I am not good enough with AoB (or AoB - like) to be getting 100% kills on higher difficulties :/ .

for the UC, you can do something similar on the demons - use your knife or fists (even the Brute 3 chainsaw has a decent chance of working, on demons) and beat on them until you get a good berserk, then pull out the chainsaw and go for the Angel. If you get the berserk while there are still a lot of demons, you're probably best off switching to the chainsaw and cleaning them up first - any other berserker triggers will be "good" once you're in a good berserk.

On Medium at least the bug is manageable, imo.
