3d Art Inspired by DoomRL
Shinji_Ikari_9th:
Here we go, I decided to do this as a new post.
I started with this render.
You'll note that things are rather dark.
---
The next 4 renders show the results of trying to work on that.
---
---
---
At this point we can see what's going on a lot better then what I started with.
---
This next version starts bringing us truly into the FPS idea I was having by equipping our character with a pistol. Thanks to a set of flashlight and mounting rail props that came with this particular sidearm, I chose to use it as a light source as well.
---
The next two renders each added in a new light source.
---
---
These next three renders involved tweaking the poses and locations of characters.
Changed the the shooter's footing so he wasn't standing on the inside edges of his feet, and made the monster that he's fighting come more at him.
---
Move the monster back into the hole it's coming from so it's not getting a face full of mussel flare.
---
Finally re-aimed the pistol that we are holding at the monster.
---
The last change was to the lighting settings to try and clean up the shadows.
Total render time for this last version was over 17 hours.
First version was posted to the WIP thread on 4/1, final version was posted to the WIP thread on 4/16.
Those whom were giving me feedback were given until 4/23 before the final version was posted to the Entry thread.
Total time from start to posting of final entry was 23 days.

Glad to read that you like them Zicher. The developers of the program I use to make these is currently working with NVIDIA to create a new shader/render engine combo to better simulate how light behaves. I've been experimenting with the beta and would like to get feedback on my first attempt.

Here's another experiment with the iray shader and engine.
