I was not questioning that, I was only questioning point b), out of sheer curiosity.

Nukes explode only because some critical number of nuclear reactions have reached, and most designs usually make sure that this isn't the case until the nuke is actually deployed.

Oh please, don't you think that if real nuclear bomb would explode, only one level of the base would explode? After the explosion of the real nuclear bomb, a small city gets obliterated at least. So I totally agree with this suggestion, but we can't discuss is this logical or not because in real life there aren't any weapons that act like the thermie from DoomRL.

It's conceivable that a large, compartmentalized structure with suitable reinforcement and blowout arrangements might survive the internal detonation of an SADM (Special Atomic Demolition Munition - a man-portable nuclear warhead developed by the USA during the Cold War for demolition and area denial purposes in the event of things going "hot"). I can't see anyone - even the doomguy - lugging anything much bigger than an SADM around under fire.

Not to mention the vast majority of a level doesn't survive one.
But yeah. Nukes aren't simple bags of explodium, and while it'd be funny if dropping them on lava blew them up, it just saves ten seconds, and how often would it come up besides people trying it on a whim and being slightly disappointed and glad their run wasn't cut short?
