More Interesting Postmortem History

(1/2) > >>

Derek:
Postmortem history right now seems fairly redundant, especially since it tells you all the special levels you went through at the top.  I suggest having some more interesting things to say for each level in the history?

First sentence could always be "On level X he A through B" like you have now, only with more options, depending on what occured.

Normal: "On level X he fought through B."
If a very low percentage of enemies was killed then: "On level X he quickly fled through B."
If all the enemies were killed then: "On level X he slaughtered his way through B. It was a bloodbath!"
If the player has below 10% health at any point in the level then: "On level X he nearly died in B, but survived."

Then you could have an additional sentence that displays any interesting things that were picked up along the way.  "There he picked up a thermonuclear bomb and an invulnerability globe."

And I'm sure there are other ways to make it more interesting.

"Many foes fell before his Longinus Spear."

"And he telefragged an Arch-vile!"

"Things were looking bad for him on level X..." (a modifier for the first sentence if he starts with low health, no armor, etc.)

"He gained the level 3 Dualgunner trait!" (would be nice for people on the forums to see :)

"His favorite weapon was the extended combat shotgun he received on level X." (for the end?)

"There he went on a berserk killing spree and turned N enemies into pulp!"

You get the picture! ;)

Yeah, the current history sucks :-P. Any further ideas for descriptions -- please post them here!

DaEezT:
The mortem entries for the special levels could reflect whether the palyer cleared the level or not
"stormed the cathedral" = killed everything and "visited the cathedral" = did not.

"special" weapons ('advanced' etc) could show up
"On level x he was blessed with a stainless blender"

Leaving a level in less than x steps/not killing any monster/exploring less than x%
"he dashed through level x"

You could count the lever pulls prior to getting intuition and make a remark in the end
"he liked to gamble" = pulled a lot of levers

more to come :p

"He had no choice, so he nuked cuberdaemon" - when you get to a phobos arena <20%HP and Nuke him

JimmyJ:
Maybe also you could say how many enemys he killed on each level??
