The reason i started with SoB was to actually have some punch with shotty while building up skills for a proper chain-ripping.

You know, I should have been able to figure that out. I thought it was a little strange when I was typing it, but I was kinda tired and figured you knew something I didn't. Starting with SoB isn't a bad idea, the question I ask myself is do I feel lucky enough to find a combat shotgun? If I do then SoB is what I'll grab, otherwise I'll go EE. Actually the only three traits I'll ever grab on the first level are SoB, EE or brute for an N! vampyre run.
One reason in favor of EE and a chaingun is that there are certain corner shots that a shotgun can't make. On the other side of that coin there are plenty of reasons to use the combat shotgun as your main weapon and switch to a chaingun when needed. Even if I grab EEx2 then Intx2 for the first four traits I'll still use the combat shotgun over the chaingun despite the fact none of the traits are really for shotguns. And the combat shotgun + SoB = great crowd control. Unfortunately combat shotguns don't always spawn, but they usually do.
It's worth noting that with EEx2 if you are in a situation where you have to kill a baron and finding cover is impossible, I find it's better to chainfire it to death than to use the combat shotgun. With any amount of cover though, the combat shotgun with SoB is going to give you some knock back giving you quite the advantage over a baron, even more so with a single T mod on it. If I can actually make a high powered chaingun then I start using the combat shotgun for scouting and the chaingun for clean up.
So the condensed version becomes, carry a chaingun and a stack of bullets, but mainly use the combat shotgun and however many stacks of shells are needed.
