--------------------------------------------------------------

In fact, call me a moron because this SHOULD have been quad Diamond. Usually I time the lava element until the very last second, but due to speed changes in N! the last second was skipped over. Still, Veteran Diamond is more doable than some other ones here, so I'm okay with it.

The only special level I skipped was the Mortuary on account of no Ammochain and no Berserker, which would have left me very little to work with. All the others were cleared up, I imagine a couple weren't counted due to enemies respawning before I left. (Spider's Lair is missing from this run, thank goodness.)

Destroyer Diamond is the most obvious badge-get here, so how about the others?

  • Gatekeeper Diamond was...unexpected. I hadn't realized that I cleared Hellgate without taking damage until the post-mortem, but I guess Firenangel was useful after all. As it turns out, the no-splash almost never came up, between radar-shooting everything, shooting faster than everything, and just about avoiding everything else.
  • Longinus Diamond was this run's primary objective. I captured the video of it and I will make some commentary soonHere's a video of me picking up the Longinus Diamond. I don't want to spoil how I did it JUST yet (so people in the know don't go blabbing), but I think you will be pleasantly amused.

Jumped from 1st Sergeant to Mjr General from this single run, too. Good times, indeed...

Well done. I find it extra amusing because I'm actually in the middle of trying to get the Longinus Diamond right now in AoMC. Looks like you beat me though :). I have two ideas of how I could achieve it and if you said it was amusing then I'm assuming you probably went with option two. I'm not going to spoil the surprise, but I think this is a hint:
Spoiler (click to show/hide)

Quite the accomplishment on the Gatekeeper diamond too. I wimped out and did it on UV with a napalm launcher and Intx2. Much easier that way. If it's any consolation on the Veteran diamond I've screwed up the lava element the other way, being berserk and popping it too early on the run where I first got the Elite diamond. Such is life.

Edited to correct my math. I should just use a calculator...

At least by your options, I went with the first one, which (in my opinion) is far more ridiculous and amusing. Option two is taking advantage of new content, which is clever, but not of the level at which people consider me to be a hardcore player.

Video's in the OP for organizational purposes. I DO mention the other possibility (spoilers for that, but it's past the video skip and there's nothing important after the skip anyway) but I won't here. Needless to say if you watch the videos then you should be prepared to learn some things that would otherwise take a lot of guesswork and experience to figure out.

Heh, actually I hadn't even thought of doing what you did. I was thinking option one was actually what you mentioned at the end of the video and option two was a slight variation of it. Although watching the video reminded me about the AoD's armor which makes even my edited math still wrong. 13, I think is the correct number.

Okay, that was terrible. I tried to copy you, but I came up short in two areas. One I only got two diamonds and not three, the other was I only had a power modded knife without the bulk mod.  I figure you might be able to appreciate what exactly that means... Either way, great idea, even if I couldn't pull it off as well.

Astranger, by the time you have Fin 3 HR 2 you might as well just try to double chainsaw him to death. With a firing speed that quick, you can hit him without a reaction then run away if you time it right, and even if you don't you only lose 36% HP.

Or if you really wanted to make sure you got it right, shove T3 on the chainsaw and you're almost certain to get a good rhythm going.

I think the RNG was messing with me because I found roughly 6-7 agility mods, 1 tech, 1 power and I had EEx2. I had enough WK had the game given me any mods. I really regretted missing the Hell's Armory because at least I would have been able to pick up a bulk mod or something. I was actually hoping for a skull (not blood) but the closest I came was a shockwave pack.

Heh, actually I hadn't even thought of doing what you did. I was thinking option one was actually what you mentioned at the end of the video and option two was a slight variation of it.
Skulls IMO are too rare in the first place to be hoping for (and the only somewhat guaranteed ones show up on the next floor) so I conceived this insane plan as shown in the video. With a T-modded chainsaw (no Thomas, you can't T3 mod it) and Fin(3) you'd have ~0.4sec fire speed, which IS enough to attack him without retaliation...if you time it correctly. Since we only have to worry about the nearest 0.1sec (or 1 turn) then I don't think it's too hard to figure out the timing, but I just didn't want to risk it. Still, double chainsaw would make it take only around 10 hits, as opposed to the 60-some here.

Although watching the video reminded me about the AoD's armor which makes even my edited math still wrong. 13, I think is the correct number.
Wiki says 10 armor and, by the calculation of me counting out the hits, I have confirmed this number. At the start of "almost dead" (for a dude of 500 HP this is ~50 HP) and 18 damage per hit (which, with 10 armor, would be 8 per) I hypothesized the AoD would go down in either six or seven hits, depending on how much the last hit counted for. He went down in six, thus proving my hypothesis. I DO have the entire video if you want to count it out yourself...

I'd agree to that. I did try to count how many throws it took at the start of almost dead, but I was kinda sloppy by that hour, but I came up with roughly 25 hits with 12 damage a hit. The 13 is just a reference to what I think a fire skull would need.

I don't think a fire skull is a viable option. I laid out 16 corpses in a 2x8 formation and used the fire skull when the AoD was standing in the middle. He was 'almost unhurt' after the ordeal. Turns out 7d7 explosion damage isn't as great as I thought it'd be.

16 explosions for 7d7 damage would knock AoD down to about half.  Unfortunately, the fire skull can't come even close to this... when the first explosion goes off, it will destroy most of the other corpses before they have a chance to explode.  Probably you only got about 2 explosions.

Edit: And it seems the max carnage rule isn't applied to the fire skull explosions.
