Maybe there should be an extra main menu item "Options" which allows you to edit the ini files ingame (just in a basic way; complex lua macros would still be done manually).
It's "doomish", and it's user/nub friendly. Well?

This will confuse the HELL out of the code though if allowed while doing a run.  =P

Kornel can do it. I'm sure he can.
I think Kornel is a pretty cool guy. eh codes gaems and doesn't be stopped by anything.

It's a great idea even if you can only do it from the main menu.
