 Some rumours though, say that the Cyberdemon was killed already!
 Is he immortal? 1 souls claim to have killed him...
 1 killed the bastard and survived.

So, in a moment of free breath, I decided to try legal DoomRL again -- after a failed AoMr (12 lev, stupid key holding) and AoSh (died to cybie due to lack of medpacks), I tried AoH and succeeded!

As usual I was following a AotD build, quite surprised that I actually managed to reach the master trait on AoH. I aimed at 100% but the last level really kicked my butt -- I doubted I would make it, so I was preparing my thermo for a partial win, however, luck had it that after an initial exchange with Cybie, I managed to get a good position behind a pillar, and corner-shoot him with my high powered BFG. Had a ton of cells from the armory, so it actually worked!

Hence, my *second non-cheated victory EVER*.

The three games made me realize a few things about the game -- I made some notes, and these are the major points:

  • lava and acid should appear later or do less damage -- there's a lot of it, however point two might suffice
  • bridges over rivers should be guaranteed -- PITA if you have to cross it once, double-PITA if you have to return to the stairs
  • there should be more shells in later special levels for AoSh players (visiting later special levels gets uneconomic from a ammo-count point of view)
  • guaranteed computer map -- this one is drastic -- it would be fun if there'd be a guaranteed computer map on each level -- after clearing a level I usually wonder what to take with me, where the healing/spheres are -- a computer map would make it more streamlined

Listen, noob, I have not seen you on this forums, and I have no idea who you are, but clearly, you have no idea how does this game work. Just as the developer about those ideas, and he will laugh his face off, they are that idiotic. Play some more, maybe contribute for the community before posting RFEs.

Seriously, those ideas are good (barring the tile damage one - the damage is now perfect, lowering it would be pointless).

I vote for lava/acid appearing later, since finding a room full of either on level 2 is usually a death trap if you have to walk through it. Bridges over rivers would be a definite plus, since enviro suits aren't too common and it'd prevent exploiting the AI that can't cross.

I've only been playing N! when doing AoSh runs pretty much for this reason. At least with N! you can corner a sergeant to refill your inventory.

  • guaranteed computer map -- this one is drastic -- it would be fun if there'd be a guaranteed computer map on each level -- after clearing a level I usually wonder what to take with me, where the healing/spheres are -- a computer map would make it more streamlined
I really like this, my memory is terrible and sometimes lava/acid makes it a risky gamble to check parts of the level.

Congrats on your second win, AoH even. I feel that AoH is actually a touch harder than normal since there is less time to get xp before you really need it.

Yes. Especially lava should be nerfed and should appear in smaller amounts. Also, less rivers.

Hmm... yeah, perhaps. Maybe guarantee bridges over lava rivers at least.

Lava/Acid: Less damage is probably stupid, just make it appear later. Rivers are indeed a bit too annoying, really any nerf would be fine by me including guaranteed bridges.

Shotguns and special levels: Because of the halls of carnage, this isn't much of a problem. Perhaps you could put some in the city of skulls or something.

Guaranteed computer map: When the player feels relatively safe, the entire map could be revealed to them, this wouldn't effect balance at all. Otherwise, a cool change could be every level always spawns exactly 1 computer map somewhere, but tracking maps become even rarer (and possibly have a level feeling when one does spawn)

This makes tracking maps (which might as well clear the level for you) rarer and removes the chance of the level's 'powerup budget' being spent on more than 1 computer map.

I'm all for the first two
The third can be solved by having sargents spawn in hell a little more often
The fourth one is a bad idea and it would set a bad precedent. Maybe make them a little more common sure and make sure they don't spawn 5 on a floor (this happens FAR too often).

This is what I think of your ideas

1: I think acid and lava should appear later, but not do less damage.

2: Yeah, it's really, really annoying losing a game because you cannot cross a lava river.

3: I think there should be more sargents. That's where the shotgun ammo could come from

4: NOOOOOOOOO! A tracking map on each level would make the game too predictable.
