Yes. Especially lava should be nerfed and should appear in smaller amounts. Also, less rivers.

Hmm... got my doubts about this one

Thomas:
Lava/Acid: Less damage is probably stupid, just make it appear later. Rivers are indeed a bit too annoying, really any nerf would be fine by me including guaranteed bridges.

Shotguns and special levels: Because of the halls of carnage, this isn't much of a problem. Perhaps you could put some in the city of skulls or something.

Guaranteed computer map: When the player feels relatively safe, the entire map could be revealed to them, this wouldn't effect balance at all. Otherwise, a cool change could be every level always spawns exactly 1 computer map somewhere, but tracking maps become even rarer (and possibly have a level feeling when one does spawn)

This makes tracking maps (which might as well clear the level for you) rarer and removes the chance of the level's 'powerup budget' being spent on more than 1 computer map.

I'm all for the first two
The third can be solved by having sargents spawn in hell a little more often
The fourth one is a bad idea and it would set a bad precedent. Maybe make them a little more common sure and make sure they don't spawn 5 on a floor (this happens FAR too often).

This is what I think of your ideas

1: I think acid and lava should appear later, but not do less damage.

2: Yeah, it's really, really annoying losing a game because you cannot cross a lava river.

3: I think there should be more sargents. That's where the shotgun ammo could come from

4: NOOOOOOOOO! A tracking map on each level would make the game too predictable.
