Why don't we have unique boots?
« on: July 04, 2011, 13:35 »

I know we've already filled most of the archetypes for special boots. We've got slow and durable with juggernaut-like resistance to knockback. We've got light and fast. But we need to find something to use for even more special boots.

Alkaline Boots
3 Protection
100% Durability
-10% Move Speed
-20% Knockback
Makes you immune to acid and neutralizes any acid you walk through at the cost of 1% Durability.
Relatively common so it can show up before lava replaces all the acid.

Lava Boots
7 Protection
100% Durability
-20% Move Speed
-35% Knockback
Cannot be repaired by normal means. Repairs 5% per turn while in lava. If worn with Lava Armor, completes the Inferno Set, allowing you to absorb lava to heal 1 hp per tile absorbed and also giving the effect of FireAngel.

Double-Time Boots
6 Protection
100% Durability
+45% Move Speed
-20% Knockback
If you are Tired while wearing these, you are given an injection of stimulants and immediately restored to Cautious at the cost of 5% Durability.

We used to have those (recall Phaseshift and Gothic boots?), but unique items were already rarely spawning, and folks didn't really worried much about boots to boot, so they got downgraded to exotics instead.

Downgrading them to exotics has the interesting side effect of an increased rate of spawn, and thus an increased chance of it actually being used.

Though if we get more ideas on some really strong boots, I think we can introduce some new unique boots.

I personally don't like the idea of an equipment set that requires two unique items.

We've already got one, and I don't think it's ever been assembled. (Though it is... fiddly.)

FireTread Boots
2 Protection
+15% Move Speed
-10% Knockback
Ingame-Description: Why is that fire shaped like shoes?
Makes you immune to lava. Turns every tile you walk on into lava unless an item is there.
These would be incredibly useful on N! for corpse destroying.

Prototype Tech Boots
1 Protection
-10% Move Speed
-10% Knockback
Ingame-Description: Some nerd managed to cram a motion tracker on his sneakers. Looks unfinished...
Gives the enemy-detecting effect of Int2 (for those not in the know, the beta reduced it to a limited radius). Accepts mods despite being unique. Is affected twice as much by mods. Could have its own special assembly to finish adding some intended features, like turning them into Rocket Boots that let you float over hazardous terrain while running.
