Partial Invisibility / Blur Sphere
« on: September 13, 2011, 16:50 »

Since Light-Amp Goggles seem to be a possibility, I thought I'd put this one out there too. How about the old partial invisibility? It could reduce monster accuracy, or, more than likely, increase player dodge rate. Interestingly, I can't find exact details for how it affected enemies in the original Doom; everything says monsters miss by a "random" amount. I reckon 30% is probably in the neighborhood.

Hey, we already have code to increasing player dodging through running, so this can make it in, right?

Note: I saw this was asked about a year and a half ago, but it disappeared, so I thought I'd just mention it again.

It's not gonna happen outside of mods.  The engine is limited to a very small number of affects for one reason or another, and modders have tried to create an invis sphere already.  The only known way to increase a player's dodge bonus without also increasing speed is to lower every enemy's accuracy.  Which is hacky.  Very hacky.

I'm sure KK could make them if he wanted to, but I'm pretty sure he doesn't want to.
