55 brave souls have ventured into Phobos:
 50 of those were killed.
And 3 couldn't handle the stress and committed a stupid suicide.

 2 souls destroyed the Cyberdemon...
1 sacrificed itself for the good of mankind.
1 killed the bastard and survived.

WAIT WAIT WHOA WHOA WHOA STOP FULL WIN WHAT THE HELL
This is even more unexpected than my standard win. It also appears I'd forgotten my objective on this run - to assemble as much as possible - and just returned to my classic Doom procedure i.e. punch things till they explode.
Blademaster was almost a godsend. I spawned on level 23 with the stairs just out of my vision range, with a revenant and an arch-vile blocking it.
Three moves later, both dead and not one health lost. Found my nuke at 14.
Arachnotron cave on 22 gave me a considerable amount of trouble, if only for the amount of times I had to press Enter to skip the messages. They also managed to destroy two pairs of red armour, two greens and a blue.
Invulnerability spawned literally next to the stairs on Hell 9, next to an arch-vile who I promptly taught why fire < piercing chainsaw.
JC seems much easier than the Cyberdemon. I appreciate I'm playing on ITYTD, but the Cyberdemon gave me more trouble last run than JC on this run.

Overall thoughts:
Icarus Minor, Compet-N Silver.
Speedrunner Bronze doesn't really count as my first standard win was on my DoomRL folder on my hard drive, while this is on my USB stick (why I don't just have it on my laptop HD i'll never know).
Melee weapons are ridiculously fun to use.
Piercing chainsaw undoubtedly the most reliable melee weapon outside of the Angel of Death's cutlery implements of choice.
Should probably start doing real runs now.
Beating things to death with ranged weapons counts as ranged kills - that's why there's no Strongman Bronze - must keep this in mind.

JC's AI seems a little buggy when it comes to spawning stuff. (Compare to the previous version when, it was nothing but Barons.) This will definitely be fixed in the next version, although I'm not sure if the spawns alone will increase the difficulty to a proper level. I'll make sure to do additional testing on him to ensure that he is an appropriately difficult encounter.

Piercing chainsaw undoubtedly the most reliable melee weapon outside of the Angel of Death's cutlery implements of choice.
I dunno, double chainsaw is a more powerful weapon in just about every case, though it does cost you WK (Ripper beats both but there is NO way it is worth the mods). Non-basic assemblies notwithstanding, you're still probably better off bulk-modding against everything but the biggest bosses: piercing weapons don't get a bonus against Arachntrons the way normal melee weapons do.

So yeah, melee runs are a lot simpler than ranged runs, which is part of the reason they're likely easier for players. On the other hand, this is a difficulty in terms of sophistication rather than gameplay, and I'm a little worried that melee games are quite easier in both regards. This isn't necessarily bad, but it does tend to skew things in a certain direction, and having ranged builds be easier is supposed to be more to the point of DoomRL. The issue isn't at all an easy one to fix, that's for sure.

As I mentioned earlier, starting melee builds is a nightmarish festival of chance.
Whilst starting ranged builds is much more stable. At least more stable than losing 8 times in a row at level 2-4.

And after the nightmare we call the starting point, melee builds tend to overpower the ranged builds.
An example being that Phobos Hellgate is pretty easy with a melee build (more or less, at least), whilst the same can't be said for many of the ranged builds.
