As I'd been doing a bit too many ITYTD speedruns, I decided to try my hand at something a little more difficult.
Namely, Angel of Purity.
My main trait built was to be: Int > Int >Rel > Rel > SM > HR > Fin > Jug > MSh, and then Iro/TaN.
This specific trait build (i.e. a Shottyhead) was to reduce my massive reliance on powerups by keeping enemies out of my vision range.
First few levels went perfectly - got a combat shotgun on Base 7 and then an assault shotgun on Base 8, immediately bulk modding it. This would probably save my arse numerous times, with Shottyman's ability to fully reload the assault shotgun allowing me to cornershoot without any hitches. The very next level would present me with Onyx Armour, which would reduce my reliance on armour shards, and indeed, the luck required to find an armour lever (of which I found FOUR). Hellgate was spent carving a passage to the demons with my rocket launcher, the Bruisers did a lot of damage, forcing me to use my three large medpacks.
It was Hell 1 that I realised I'd done the worst possible thing to do - played Angel of Purity ran out of shells. I then relied on the glorious RNG itself to stop me from spawning next to Arch-Viles and Revenants.
Amusingly, it did. Hell 2 was a room full of what sounded like Revs and Viles - undoubtedly the WORST combination you could possibly ask for - in the corner. I took my chance, and searched around, finding two large medpacks and shockwave pack and a phase device.
Hell 3 was possibly the luckiest thing EVER and the worst thing ever when you have no ammo - an arena level. Intuition showed me that there were three enemies next to a lava barrel in the bottom left corner, so I used my rocket launcher to show them what for and escape.
Hell 4 was a rev complex (arse!). Spawned next to two revenants and a shell box. Had I had just ten more cells, I'd have been able to probably kill the two revenants with my BFG and claim the shell box for my own.
Hell 5 put an Arachnotron between me and the Vaults - with no ammo except for rockets and bullets I decided to punch it to death. Spiders evidently can't punch because he hit me a grand total of three times. A unique spawned in the vaults but there was less than zero chance I was getting it with no shells
Hell 6 - stairs were just out of my vision, escaped rather fast.
Hell 7 had me running over acid dodging Mancubus blasts to get to the stairs.
Hell 9 was pretty funny - just look at the map - there was no way in hell I was surviving that. I'm quite glad I died to a revenant rather than an arch-vile because revenants are infinitely cooler.

Overall:
AoP is quite fun, will be trying it more when I can, see if I can win and not forget to pick up every shell I see.
The thing I missed most wasn't berserks or invulnerabilities (but invulns would have helped a load), it was armor shards - I must have tore through six red armours getting through Hell, and more green armours in the base itself.
This game seems to like killing me on the level before Cybie, doesn't it.

Oh shells... every shotgunner's nightmare/dream.  That's the problem with shotguns -- they work really well in sounding out enemies out of vision, but the damage drop-off also means that you have to waste more shells just to kill the sucker outside of your vision.  Stockpiling shells is extremely important for a shotgunner.  I noticed that you had Int x2; maybe you could have considered the tactic of sneaking up on them so that your shells do more damage, thus conserving your overall shell use.  I think that's something that the higher players do once the going gets tough -- correct me if I'm wrong.

The RNG can be cruel this way... heheh...
