I decided to try for the Gargulec Cross today and came *very* close to making it. As is typical with melee builds, the early game was the toughest part, and I managed it with lots of "gift-dropping," a technique I came up with independently, and later learned there was a name for it from watching one of Game Hunter's videos. :)
It was pretty smooth sailing once I got Vampyre trait until I started encountering Arch-Viles, who caught me out in the open a few times without berserk and I lost all my med-packs. In the end, the level was down to one injured Revenant and I managed to retreat around a corner with 2% health left. My only chance of success was for him to come around the corner and have me hit him first. I waited there for a while, alternating between pushing "," and "." so I would rest twenty turns at a time, until finally he came around and... I missed! ...ARGH! One hit from Azrael's Scythe would have finished him off; what a terrible time for the RNG to mess me up! :(
