After taking a long break I returned to Chaosforge and saw a new version was out. This is my first decent run that could get me farther than the Bruiser Brothers (the first run ended at the Wall and my second doomguy met his demise at the Arena). The game was running quite smooth until the Wall, where I used up 5+ medkits, all my rockets and two blue armors, about 3 knights and barons could attack at once and I had to burn them with the Arena Master's Staff. I managed to go through the place alive, was almost killed by lost souls in the chamber near the Bruiser Brothers, but again emerged victorious.

Hell's Armory greeted me with a Nano Pack, which I decided to keep to make a Power Armour (this decision was stupid as I found no power mods), then I got a Sniper Pack which I wanted to use for a future turboblaster (never be too sure about your future in a roguelike, folks!). I also found an Acid Spitter, which I decided to keep for a case of emergency (I never actually used it against the enemy in this very run, though). My character was fried at the Spider's Lair.

This run led me to a brilliant idea: if you see 8 arachnotrons and a teleporter when a level begins, you run into a teleporter before anything else, and only AFTERWARDS you get your BFGs out, and NEVER VICE VERSA! Learn from my fail.

By the way, is it me or the Wall became much more challenging? New AI is cool, monsters no longer hang around the centre of the map.

I can't really disagree with you - I find the whole game a little harder - but easier at the same time.

It's hard to explain, but the fact that Hellgate (Anomoly now) has been nerfed a little (since it's so much earlier in the game) gives you a free red armour and extra medpacks. Everything feels earlier, which isn't bad, it's good. It's such a to and fro in regards to difficulty, it's like playing a whole new difficulty level...

But yeah - go to the damn teleporter! It's safer that way!

It's hard to explain, but the fact that Hellgate (Anomoly now) has been nerfed a little (since it's so much earlier in the game) gives you a free red armour and extra medpacks. Everything feels earlier, which isn't bad, it's good. It's such a to and fro in regards to difficulty, it's like playing a whole new difficulty level...

Has it been nerfed?  The red armour and large med-packs were always there.  And since you can't wall bust the first ambush any more, I'd say it's harder, not easier.

...and indestructible walls at the Anomaly now won't let you kill monsters before their release is correctly triggered. Finally, it was fixed.
I agree, the whole game is now played from a new perspective.

Less baddies in this version if I remember .994 correctly...

Also, the Cacos kill most of the Lost Souls before you can, unless you have a tac shotty! :P

It's a bit of a give and take. If you really think about it - it's kind of the same as before - but meh...I think it's a little easier.

I'd damn well say it's harder, especially on AoHu.

Pretty much the only way to survive the ambush now is to find a phase or a lucky invulnerability...

It's a bit of a give and take. If you really think about it - it's kind of the same as before - but meh...I think it's a little easier.

As far as I remember, before .995 there were demons, but they were apparently removed. Oddly enough, in a regular run these Lost Souls cause more trouble than the Bruiser Brothers duo if you have the missile launcher from the Wall. Poor guys won't even be able to fire at you.
