Hackmaster 4e IC - Quest for the Unknown

<< < (9/28) > >>

Matt_S:
"Good!  I think we can work with ten feet of rope."  Sam once again examines the situation, then continues speaking.  "So... we should at least be able to tie two animals together, if not all three.  Since Michael will be in front, his animal should be tied to another one..."
Spoiler (click to show/hide)I should come up with a name for my mule...

Before deciding how to do this, I'd like to ask about what we can do with this ten feet of rope.  Is that enough to tie all three in a line?

S.K. Ren:
"Yes, we should just be able to tie two animals side by side to the third..." Maoun's voice trailed as be pulled out his journal, quill and ink. It almost occurred too late that a proper map would be useful to have as they explored. After all, who knows how big this place is.
Spoiler (click to show/hide)So I volunteer for maintaining a map.

As for tying up the mules, a straight line would be useful for doorways but I think tying the mid point to the lead animal and the ends to the others would allows us to keep them closer at hand and if we need to make them inline, we can just slide one up and use the slack to keep the other in back.

S.K. Ren:
Having sketched a rough estimate of the cave entrance, Maoun turned back the party still figuring out how to tie their asses together. "Men? Take one end of the rope. Tie it to one of the mules. Then loop the cord through the back of Emuleio's saddle, then tie it to the other mule. We can adjust the length should we need more space later." Assuming his place on Emulio's back, he motioned impatiently for to the party to proceed.

Spoiler (click to show/hide)If I'm wrong about all three being mules, Ill edit it. Also Malek, about how long/wide is the cave entrance?

Malek Deneith:
Spoiler (click to show/hide)It's wide enough for two men and it took the party less than a minute to get to the door. To get more specific dimensions you'd need a Complex Geometric Estimation check (as a reminder this is one of the "GM rolls in secret" skills).

Fuck, I'm starting to consider dropping that skill as well already D: But I'll try it out for now.
Oh to hell with it. The corridor is 10 feet wide and you walked 60 feet before you reached the door. After them it seems to go for 10 feet more before niches at both sides appear, but that's as far as you can see at the moment.

As for Complex Geometric Estimation - as of now the skill doesn't have to be used to calculate corridor dimensions as such, but still can be used for various tricks as described in the PHB.

Matt_S:
Sam looks around to see if anyone is moving to tie the rope.  Nope.  "Uhh... Okay, I'm on it."  Sam grabs the rope that Jace offered up, and he gets to work.  First Sam ties the rope to his own mule, who is cooperative enough. "Good boy..."  Then he moves on to Emuleio and loops the rope through the saddle as instructed.  Now moving on to Michael's mule, Sam ties the rope again, hopefully locking the three mules together.

"Alright, we're ready to go."  With the task done, Sam assumes his position in the formation behind Sho Lee.

Spoiler (click to show/hide)Is there some assumed consent for continuing to march along?  It seems like there's time zone or schedule differences that could slow things down.
