After not playing since 0.9.9.1, I decided to start up again, got a few wins to unlock Ao100, and started up my favorite mode. Loved all the new changes and whatnot so far. I cleared most levels with ease, trying out new assemblies as i found the parts for them, and had been using a GCB for most of it until i tried out the combat pistol and loved that.

I got lucky with an invuln and a homing phase, and decided to just nuke the last level. Blink to stairs, go down, set off nuke and about to congradulate myself on a job well done, and 'fizzle' .. the nuke doesn't work. Uh .. wtf?. Ah well, lets do this the hard way. I grab a nearby tracking map and see 2 yellow @'s blinking around the map. I approach cautiously clearing most of the other enemies trying to avoid them. When one of the 'Apostle's blinked in next to me I started my usual 'kill-it-before-it-moves-spam' and after a full clip, it wasn't hurt in the slightest. I whip out the nice BFG10K I had been keeping for rainy days, and unload about 8-10 shots before it dies (many medpacks used despite my high armor). I heal up but more than half my ammo was used up, then the other one blinks in next to me. Great! So I try to see if all my other guns have any effect on him after using my few remaining shots to get him mostly dead. Nope! Even rockets to the face he shrugs off, and apparently my boots decided this was a good time to run out of durability, and oh look, I was standing in (up until now) normally fine lava. Boom! There goes most of my health .. and my boots .. and look lava .. there is an extra lot of my health damage I wasn't expecting. *cry*. Him almost dead, and 2 more enemies and it would have been 100%.

All in all, I like the new Apostles. After reading up a bit on the forum, I found out they are a bug in this version but I liked having them at the end despite me dying. Even though I was doing it on Medium as it had been forever since I played a Ao100, and I was worried about the new 'nightmare' mobs, the game wasn't a challenge past oh say level 40. So having them at the end was a nice touch and would have made the 100% win feel very worth it.

Couple questions i couldn't find answers to:
1) Why couldn't i nuke the last level? was it because of the Apostle's, or because it was the last level of Ao100?

2) Why does it say 'committed a stupid suicide on level 84 of Hell' when i was on level 100?

3) Why does it say 'He nuked level 100!' when I tried to, but the nuke fizzled? Shouldn't there be a different message for this?

1) No idea, I've never beaten Ao100.
2) First 8 levels are Phobos, next 8 are Deimos, all the levels afterwards are Hell, like a standard game.  I don't know if it's considered a bug, but it confuses people all the time.

About question 2: Note that first eight levels are counted as Phobos, and the next eight are Deimos. This leaves 84 levels of Hell, and IMHO this should be changed, as it can be fairly confusing.

About question 3: Most probably a bug worth reporting.

Thanks for the replies, and yeah that doesn't make too much sense for a mode of '100 levels of the same'.

I guess it would make more sense to have Ao100 constructed as a special episode. It could have a snazzy name too, something like "The Abyss"...
