Hi.  So, I'm here to document not only my first full win, but my first win--period.  I'm still learning the ropes of the game, so much of this run was experimentation, finding out what items do, and clumsily wasting items (like skulls, which I still have no clue about).  Anyway, it was an adrenaline-infused run for me, as I ventured deeper and deeper into Inferno, daring to push the limits of the Mortuary and the Unholy Sanctuary, or whatever it's called (the melee-only place).  I didn't complete either, but I came damn close to beating the Mortuary.  I ran out of ammo, of all things, and was forced to fight on the next floor with nothing but a chainsaw until I found some supplies.  Energy cells were low throughout as I held my trusty plasma shotgun close.  Near the end of my run, I grabbed an assault shotgun, and was able to use my supply of shells that I stubbornly held onto.  No master traits whatsoever, except for a few of the smaller ones (intuition and shotgunnery or whatever it's called).  Nearly died to the boss of the sanctuary, but a homing device saved me.  No clue how I'm supposed to beat that guy without a huge supply of meds, or a secret awesome melee I have yet to find.  Having two BFGs proved useful in some of the tougher rooms, like the Mortuary.  Four shots back to back without slowing down to reload was nice, but probably unnecessary.  Blindly slapped mods onto equipment after my plasma shotgun and phaseshift armor held three mods each.  Finally reached Dis, thinking he was the last boss, when I had just picked up two Invulnerability Orbs on the previous floor, so I was certain that I would survive the blast--though, I had no idea that I had to wait so long for it to erupt!  I was worried I'd lose invuln before the time was up, though it has occurred to me while typing this that I might have been able to blow it up with my missile launcher.  Not sure.  Dis met his end, and I survived the blast.  Of course, the game wasn't over.  I moved on and found Carmack in the empty room, myself holding one more thermo and lava element.  I had no idea what the lava element did, but I was low on supplies.  I shot off a few plasma shots and missiles at Carmack, but he unleashed huge amounts of skulls, and eventually more advanced demons.  I used the fancy eruption pack that I got earlier that looks like a homing device, but that only helped so much.  So, I popped the lava element, and, lo!  I was invincible!  I quickly threw down the Thermo, hit shift + Y, and shot off missiles with glee!  ...and then lost my invuln with six or so seconds left.  Crap.  I threw missile after missile at Carmack, hoping that I could somehow defeat him before time was up.  The Wounded Carmack died, as did I.  And the grinning exposition, etc.  So, technically, a full win.  My first.  But I had hoped to survive the run.  I might have been able to beat him without the thermo, but at least I can say I won my first real go.  Prior to this, I had only reached hell once, and died soon after.  Enthralling game, and I look forward to future attempts.  Thanks to the devs.

with lava element, first use the nuke, then wait for 4-3 seconds left, then use lava element - the invulnerability is brief but will last enough to survive the nuclear explosion.

Pretty epic first win!  Nice one!  :D

And I salute you for not looking up spoilers for things like the skulls and the Unholy Cathedral, etc.  I try to avoid looking up stuff on the Wiki too; it makes it much more satisfying to figure it out for yourself.  (I still want to figure out how to wield Dragonslayer!)

Aw crap... a former Apostle God Hand, currently with 4 diamonds, and he still doesn't know how to wield the Dragonslayer... How big chance do I have, then? =)

But yeah, it's better not to look up spoilers, even though it makes whizkid much less useful.

Just do a few HNTR speedruns, going straight to Hell's Armory.  Collect enough schematics and you'll be able to make good use of Whizkid.  (And yeah, I realize how that sounds saying "just" defeat the Shambler a bunch of times)  :P  I've found a number of new assemblies for this version that way.  Playing on Angel of Confidence helps with that too, because you get to Hell's Armory faster.

As for Dragonslayer, I'm told that it's really simple, so it's possible that I haven't figured it out because I'm overthinking it, but the clues I've picked up so far seem contradictory, so it's very confusing.  :S

Theoretically it shouldn't be so difficult since figuring it out (and pulling it off) is needed to get the Armorer Gold Badge. I'm just now on the skill level where I'm very slowly aquiring gold medals, so I figured that I'm on the level where I have the chance to find out how to wield it. Seeing that you don't know how to take it is a little disheartening.

Any time you find the Dragonslayer you can use it if you know how, but things will look quite bleak when you do.

You're right - it's not practice, intuition and tactics, but a specialized illness that boosts their skills.

A 'skillness', if you will.

This is actually not much of skill but rather determination. Diamond badges are conquerable only by people who keep retrying to get it over and over and over and over again, ignoring the massive amounts of fails. If you wield skill - you won't succeed at them, but if you wield determination, you will win sooner or later, even if you don't have skill(it actually will come in the process). So, determinated person is a winner person.
