-- General ---------------------------------------------------

8 brave souls have ventured into Phobos:
 7 of those were killed.

 1 souls destroyed the Mastermind...
1 killed the bitch and survived.

--------------------------------------------------------------

For some bizarre reason, I decided that I should have to re-earn all my crap in the new version instead of porting over my stats, and I'm starting with my Marksman badges.

I decided to try out sharpshooter; this made the middle game much harder than I remember, but after I finally got it, I was ridiculously powerful. Maximized shots with that modded Combat Pistol was obscene. I could kill Arachnotrons in three shots, and because of all that SoG, I could shoot three times a second. Reloading was a bitch, but if the situation required more than 15 bullets than I should probably run away anyhow. That Combat Pistol had ridiculous power at the end

The Phobos Anomaly was a giant pile of dicks; lost souls and pistols don't mix at all. The Cyberdemon was bad too; apparently his visual range is farther than mine, I kept getting peppered by rockets from the dark.

Level 11 was a major snafu, with more lost souls. It was a maze and there was a Pain Elemental. It just kept spawning more and more lost souls. So many that they started spawning on the other sides of walls, from the lack of space. There had to be like twenty of the bastards; I tried running but seriously, who outruns a Lost Soul? I only managed to kill them all when I lured them through a narrow path and killed them one-by-one, far away from the elemental. I exited that level with 2% health and no medkits, it's a miracle I survived long enough to restock.

The Shambler seems a lot easier in this version. Instead of chasing his ass around while he shoots lasers and teleports across the level to heal, he always seemed to teleport nearby and actually fight. Makes the fight more fun.

The Mastermind was surprisingly easy. I ran in her face and shot it from point blank while she flailed at me ineffectually. Just one magazine and she fell over.

I had a chance for 100% kills, but I ducked into the Cathedral without thinking about it, when the normal exit turned out to be surrounded by lava. Not a happy moment when I realized what I'd done. I at least kept up the wholesale slaughter afterward, until level 20; I left the place when I realized it was eating my health.

Overall it was a pretty good run. Sharpshooter feels damn good when you get it, but it surviving long enough to get it is the trick.

I'm thinking re-earning my AoB badges next, using Malicious Blades. But losing Berserker, that's going to hurt like a bitch. I'm wondering if it's worth it.

This looks really great!  I should try for the MSs when I'm doing my AoMr runs later.

And yes, I have also decided to restart from scratch.  Heheheheh...

You're a better player than I am, so you'll probably have an even easier time of it. Natural whizkid access can probably make up for the lack of dualgunner by turning any pistol into a beastgun, or one could take Intuition and start picking off enemies from outside visual range; with three Eagle Eyes and a computer map to help me aim, I was seeing enemies killed from halfway across the map sometimes. I'm guessing you play on a higher difficulty than I'm used to, so you could probably pick up both with the bonus exp.

Yep to all those statements. Lost Souls are damn powerful, and too powerful in AoMr for my taste.
Cybie is bad and ugly. AI improvement made him not caring about tap game, he just keeps blasting everything with his rockets (moreover, his rockets tend to go through walls, it seems). Maybe if there was one indestructible pillar like in the previous versions...
Spidey gave me little problems so far and I am starting to think that she should take the Cybie place, and he should take her. In original Doom Cybie was usually winning when opposed Spidey ...

I hear you on the Lost Souls; until I got sharpshooter AND three powermods, they'd take several shots to kill. The only reason I survived the Anomaly is because those helpful Cacodemons managed to thin then out for me. I was more afraid of pain elementals and lost souls than anything else in the game.

And yeah, the Mastermind is kinda... I know it's Doom-ish and all, and I guess the super-chaingun-plasma?-thing it uses is more effective against Dodgemasters than the Big Cow's rockets, but the Cyberdemon was a lot more dangerous as a final boss. The dude creamed me in a close-quarters fight the first time I saw him.

In the game she had a few demons for backup, didn't she? That might be worth throwing in with her here. Or not; I'm not exactly the super-experienced player.

Ammochains are one of the key ingredients to a sharpshooter.  If you find enough of them, you can just use them as your normal ammo source, and you hardly have to worry about reloading time anymore.  In my opinion, judging from my experience on HNTR, MSs is the best of the pistol master trait builds.  The easy whizkid access means you can get some awesomely modded pistols for the midgame while you're waiting for that master trait - after that, the game is almost in the bag.

Malicious Blades is an awesome trait, but I wouldn't recommend it for AoB, since early game without berserker is really tough. It's better when you can use shotgun or something in the early level until you get the master.

Edit: I was trying to get strongman gold recently, thinking that since it allows the use of knives, Malicious Blades would be perfect master to go for. I didn't manage to actually get it even after many tries. Then I switched to a vampyre build and won the badge after 3-4 tries.

Yeah the souls now are scarry.

I'm wondering if it is worth it on a pistol-only run to assemble a plasma dealing pistol, just for souls and revenants... I really can't decide if (assuming one has the mods) the mods wouldn't be better spend elsewhere.

I played a sharpshooter build recently (I think it was Ao100) and I did assemble the energy pistol, since that is the only pistol assembly I know of (besides speedloader). It was pretty good, and allowed me to destroy walls with 3 shots. (I think I power modded it as well). There was just enough ammo (and arachnotrons) not to worry about running out.

At some point I found the trigun and their effectiveness was roughly the same (i didn't bother to compare the stats, I jsut observed that monsters die in the same ammout of shots), so I switched them based on what ammo was more plentiful at the moment.
