Yes, i remember game versions, where Berserk trait gives bonus only to meelee damage, not to hit chance.

Here's the trait list from 0.9.8.0 (the first version with sound and the last version before archviles)

  [c] Hellrunner     (Level 1)  Movecost -10%/lv, Dodge chance +10%/lv.

  [e] Son of a bitch (Level 1)  Increases damage by 1/level.
  [f] Son of a gun   (Level 1)  Pistol: firing time -20%/lv. Dmg+2/lv.
  [g] Reloader       (Level 1)  Each level reduces reload time by 20%.
  [h] Eagle Eye      (Level 1)  Each level increases to hit chance by 4.
  [i] Cateye         (Level 1)  Each level increases sight range by 1.
