Too bad I ran into an arena type level with 2 Revenants giving each other backup. One of these is hard enough (I was waiting to ambush one outside of a room, but instead of opening the door he just blasted a hole in the wall next to it), but 2 or more spells certain death to me. Is there any way around this if there is no cover whatsoever?

It's not a quirk per se - in doom corpses get crushed by doors, DoomRL just doesn't require you to close them. Corpses disappearing in water is kinda weird though.
