I thought I'd keep experimenting with different challenges and master traits. The result is this game:

Army of the Dead is like a sub-challenge on top of the Angel of Shotgunnery challenge. I'm used to loading everything with mods and focusing on active defence traits, so it took some lateral thinking to make the most of basic assemblies and passive defence. I think buying berserker was a good move; I didn't know that when you take a big hit with berserker, the berserk resistance kicks in before damage is calculated. Going berserk and taking just one damage when a rocket hits you makes the cyberdemon a joke. The ranks of ironman that I got at the end might actually have been detrimental, since higher max health means berserker kicks in less often.

The first part of the game didn't feel too different than normal, as I always tend to go pretty heavy on the shotguns. Things started to change with chained court - I had to trap the arena master against a wall and chip away at him with a double shotgun while 'zerked. Phobos anomaly went well as I found an invulnerability sphere close to the stairs to it. I got lucky and was able to corner shoot the bruiser brothers without taking damage even after invulnerability wore off.

In Deimos, I left the medical powerarmor where it spawned as I've just never found a good use for it. I mostly used tactical armour and common armours instead. I found an onyx armour pack in the Armory which I saved for lava boots so I'd have more route options in hell levels. I beat Halls of Carnage because I knew it would be easy - same goes for City of Skulls, which spawned a hatred skull. An invulnerability sphere spawned close to the stairs to the Spider's Lair so I decided to tackle that too, though it got scary after the sphere ran out. Luckily, a combat shotgun with MAD does a decent amount of damage even beyond sight range, so I radar-shot my way to victory.

I was foolish enough to enter the mortuary. I used the hatred skull and a fire skull that I got from City of Skulls pretty much right away. Even while 'zerked I burned through every red armour and supercharge in the right half of the level, and when my 'zerk ran out on my way back to the left side I started to worry. Luckily, it seemed that I'd already managed to kill every vile in my all-consuming rage, so I just had to radar- and corner-shoot from the centre structure until everything was properly dead. The damage was done, though - I only had a stack and a half of shells left, which left me on a pretty tight schedule for the rest of the game. For some reason I went into the lava pits anyway, and wasted even more shells killing most monsters from out of sight range. I only had about thirty shells left leaving that level, so I knew that my one chance left was to nuke the last level of hell, wasting a nuke and lava element I was thinking about spending elsewhere, and then spend those last shells on the mastermind. I equipped the shielded armour and lured the mastermind into melee range so I could chip her health away with point-blank double shotgun blasts while she feebly scratched me. She died. The end!

Grabbing Berserker in non-melee games to take advantage of the resistance is a good trick, I'm going to steal that. =B
